About Successful Learning Center

The Successful Learning Center, SLC was established by inspired educators who share the belief that post-secondary education is a realistic and accessible life choice for all.

Established in 2008, the SLC is a comprehensive program which enables all students to participate in a college experience. The mission of the SLC is to integrate all students with disabilities into a welcoming collegiate environment, facilitate learning, promote social growth and foster intellectual curiosity. Our students are alternate learners who want to have a college experience.

The SLC welcomes students of varying abilities such as individuals with visual or hearing impairment, spinal cord injuries, Down syndrome, Autism, Traumatic Brain Injury, speech and language disabilities, disabled veterans and stroke survivors. The SLC does not just serve individuals with developmental disabilities but all students interested in continuing their education within the community. OPWDD eligibility not required.

We believe the idea of "Successful Learning" is a wonderfully effective and empowering concept. All SLC classes are developed to reinforce existing academic skills, enhance social interaction with traditional students and to promote work readiness.

These four basic principles are the foundation of our educational program:

Everybody has the capacity to learn,

Learning continues throughout life, without stopping,

Through learning, people continue to grow, develop and flourish, and

The most effective learning requires the best teachers with thoughtfully developed courses, held in a respectful, supportive and stimulating environment.
