Swim Club Management Group

Facility Director Intern

June - August 2020 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

I enjoyed the leadership meetings held biweekly as all of the interns learned so much. Because of Covid, some aspects had to be altered, but I still walked away with a lot of experience and knowledge. I was also able to transfer to the Richmond location in a part-time position as an Assistant Recruiting and Training Coordinator with the support and referral from my mentors. I was able stay with the company for a total of a year and 3 months because of this.

What I wish was different

I wish the program had been in person, but it could not be helped due to the pandemic.

Advice

Do not be afraid to make mistakes and ask questions as needed. An internship allows you to learn and grow professionally, and you do that by inquiring about things and learning from errors. It is supposed to show you what it is like to work in that career field. You may even find that they do not like the job as much as you thought you would, and that is okay.

Being in charge and being able to control a lot of situations

What I wish was different

The pay, I got paid very poorly compared to other lifeguards and even compared to assistant managers
