Syracuse Academy of Science

Business Analyst Intern

May - August 2023 • Syracuse, NY

What I liked

During my internship experience at the Science Academies of New York, I had the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills I've gained throughout my MBA program to real world scenarios. It was an invaluable experience that allowed me to immerse myself in the business environment and learn firsthand about the challenges and opportunities in the field. One of my main responsibilities was to work on financial analysis projects, where I utilized Excel spreadsheets to perform calculations and analyze financial data sets. This not only helped me sharpen my analytical skills but also provided me with practical insights into financial decision- making processes. I was involved in exploring and implementing new techniques for managing expenses and evaluating performance, which allowed me to apply my project management and data analysis knowledge to improve the organization's operations. I actively pursued the achievement of my learning objectives, which encompassed a broad range of skills and knowledge areas. Several tasks I engaged in during my internship had direct relevance to these objectives.

What I wish was different

If I were redesigning my experiential learning, I would incorporate a few changes to create a more enriched and effective learning environment. First, I would advocate for a structured feedback mechanism, not just at the end but on a continuous basis. Frequent feedback sessions would allow for real-time improvement and alignment with organizational goals. In addition, I would explore the integration of new technologies or tools that could streamline processes and offer a more data driven approach to decision-making within the organization.
