Talis Biomedical Corporation

Assay Development Intern

June - August 2019 • Menlo Park, CA

What I liked

I loved the experience working as an intern provided me with, I learned a lot of skills needed for lab work in addition to learning about the world of biomedical research and the importance of the field and its applications to health today. Being able to work with recently graduated research associates in addition to seasoned professionals allowed me to gain a perspective on the job world after school, and the positive and educational environment was really exciting to work in and fostered a passion for the field.

What I wish was different

I would have liked to learn more about the tasks with a steeper learning curve, although I know training an intern to do more tedious tasks is time consuming for a company, I still would have appreciated that opportunity.

Advice

Advocate for yourself and be forward about asking for things to do. Sometimes employers do not have jobs for you to do right off the bat, but asking for ways you can help or spending time researching the company or its applications is a good way to show initiative. Even if you don't have something to do at the time there is always something to learn about the job, the company, or current events in the field.
