Stores Executive Team Lead

June - August 2019 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

I loved how I got to work in each department and see how everyone functions as a store, and as their own department. Every department has the same goals to meet, but run so differently. You really are exposed to varying management styles and get to compare and contrast how you would handle situations to how others handle them.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have had more of a mentorship throughout the program and had more future career-related conversations.

Advice

Put yourself out there. Ask questions, do the work yourself, step outside your comfort zones. Challenge your weaknesses. This is your opportunity to grow and develop, so take advantage of those around you to help you get to where you want to be; they want to help you!

Beauty Consultant

October 2017 - August 2019 • Boise, ID

What I liked

For Idaho, it’s a great pay. Training is clear, and the fast pace makes long shifts go by quickly. Among lower level employees there’s a strong team culture, and opportunities to build quality friendships with coworkers.

What I wish was different

After several management shifts as well as changes in corporate policy, it began to feel like lower level employees were tools and not people. They avoid paying benefits by drastically cutting hours if team members get close to approaching full time. The pay can be inconsistent because of this unless you’re ready to fight to pick up extra shifts beyond your department.

Advice

It’s a demanding retail experience with a large team of employees. Aside from your immediate superior you shouldn’t expect much support or attention from management. There’s a definite corporate feel, so it’s important to have strong connections with your peers.

Cashier

June 2017 • Seekonk, MA

What I liked

I liked working with the guests and being part of a team. I liked doing things independently and feeling like I had control.

What I wish was different

Sometimes shift changes can be sloppy and sometimes it feels like there’s no room for growth. Other times there is no supervisor around to help you when you need it.

Advice

It’s a good job, just do what you need to do and you’ll be fine. I recommend this employer highly.
