Cashier/Pizza Hut

April 2016 • Batavia, IL

What I liked

Everyone there is very nice. The pay was very nice and it was always enjoyable to talk to my co-workers. I really enjoyed my Pizza Hut job.

What I wish was different

The Pizza Hut I worked at just got closed down to make more storage room for Starbucks. Pizza Hut made a good amount of money but threw out a lot of food. The pay is nice, but the hours tend to be very poor.

Advice

If you are looking for a lot of hours, this may not be the place for you. They like to pay high but give few hours while continuing to hire more employees.

Executive management intern

June - August 2019 • Tacoma, WA

What I liked

I enjoyed getting to see more about how a large retailer runs. With the Tacoma Target being one of the top two Targets in Washington doing over 50 million a year there was a lot to learn. The company was going through lots of new changes and seeing how they were being implemented first hand was an amazing experience.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more organization and time being invested as growing me as a leader. Since things were so fast-paced sometimes I felt like I wasn't getting the most of the experience. Compared to the other people I spoke to in the program at other locations I didn't get as much responsibility to jump in and try leading until the very end. Which didn't give me much time to grow as a leader as I would have liked. Being an executive intern and working alongside team leaders or members often times there wasn't a situation set up for me to lead rather than be an extra hand.

Advice

If you go into this experience go in determined to lead. Be vocal and express concerns that you are having right away. Don't let you be an intern make you feel like you have to just listen to what team members or team leaders are telling you to do. You are there to help lead and not only take orders and be an extra hand. insert yourself in different situations to lead even if you don't feel prepared.

Store Executive Intern

July - August 2020 • Harrisburg, PA

What I liked

I received a lot of personal attention from leadership, as I was the only intern at my store. I was given the freedom to make decisions right after having hands-on training. I loved the environment and the encouragement I received from my mentor.

What I wish was different

Advice

Apply to internships and see where they take you! Be willing to ask A TON of questions...that was something my mentors appreciated. Keep your curiosity alive throughout your internship. And step up as a leader, even if it is scary.

Guest Service Supervisor

June - August 2020 • Ann Arbor, MI

What I liked

I enjoyed interacting with guests and offering support to my coworkers during the pandemic.

What I wish was different

I wish we had a specific person in charge of checking people for masks. We didn't have enough training for this and it was very stressful.

Advice

Target Security Specialist

March 2020 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

I was apprehensive about starting this job because it was unlike any other I had before. However, I took my positive mindset and work ethic into the job and eventually hit my stride with it.
