Terumo Medical Corporation

Human Resources Intern

June - August 2021 • Somerset, NJ

What I liked

What I liked about Terumo and my internship experience was being able to network and collaborate with key stakeholders of the business that offered my perspective on how I can drive my own career. Being that the company values diversity and perspective, I had the opportunity to work cross-functionally and learn about the different areas of the business. Working cross-functionally teaches you how to be an effective communicator, great leader, and helps you enhance your business acumen skills. I also liked how the internship was flexible by allowing me to work remotely two days a week. Lastly, I enjoyed working with all the people in my department because they helped me enhance my HR capabilities and professional development.

What I wish was different

There were some things that I wish Terumo did differently. Firstly, I wish that I had the opportunity to touch all the facets of Human Resources. I was eager to work in Talent Acquisition but did not get the opportunity to do so. Secondly, I wish there was more time for me to work remotely. There were some days that I could have been at home completing the work rather than being in the office. Finally, I wish Terumo allowed for me and the other interns to collaborate more during meetings.

Advice

Most internships only last three months so it is important to get as much experience as you can by being engaged. Being involved and asking a lot of questions will help you learn new perspectives about HR and business that college courses are unable to teach you. Finally, talk to as many people as you can to help you learn great communication skills that will help you talk like a business professional.

NPD Intern

June - August 2019 • Elkton, MD

What I liked

The atmosphere of the company was really warm and welcoming and continued throughout my stay. I also enjoyed the various projects I was given. I had real hands on experience that has given me confidence to go out into industry and become a full time engineer!

What I wish was different

I wish they had the jobs posted a little sooner. I didn't interview with them until end of March/beginning of April which felt a little too close to summer for comfort.

Advice

Use this as an opportunity to network! It's not always about how much you do at the company, it's important to meet as many people and learn about what they do.

Mechanical Engineering Intern

May - July 2018 • Elkton, MD

What I liked

I liked everything about the internship. The people were incredible. They gave the interns a ton of freedom and showed a lot of trust in us. I was able to learn so much in just a short amount of time. It was great.

What I wish was different

Nothing.

Advice

Nothing beats experience. Grades are important, but, in engineering, experience is more coveted than GPA.

IT Support Specialist Intern

June 2018 • Somerset, NJ

What I liked

The small company atmosphere. I was able to learn many new skills and get hands on experience with things that interns at other companies would not get to experience.

What I wish was different

My role in the IT department was more infrastructure related. I would have liked the opportunity to sit with the business analysts and work on projects related to the company's business applications.

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask a lot of questions. I learned more during this internship than I did in the classroom and asking insightful questions was very helpful.
