The environment was really nice as was the people in charge, Ms. Rodriguez and Ms. Ambrose were very nice to work with, as were all the other tutors.
What I wish was different
Honestly, I wish circumstances were different. I worked there for only two weeks, until one day I was fired out of nowhere. The student employment director, Elizabeth Rocha, was directly responsible for my termination, and never directly communicated that I was not in compliance with the semester credit hour requirement. I was taking only 5 hours, and missing 1 hour in order to be in compliance, and Ms. Rocha decided instead of informing me of the noncompliance prior to the last registration day, decided to terminate me without any prior warning. Ms Rocha uses the defense, "you signed a contract stating the requirement", when in reality the contract does not contain any information regarding the specifics of the requirements, only the statement that TAMIU has the right to termination if noncompliant. Additionally, I would like to state that I was the only tutor that could help with Nursing pre-requisites, and had a number of requests for help, as well as almost daily students asking for my help. I feel as though my termination will really affect a number of students besides myself.
Advice
Honestly, I cannot and will not recommend any more students work at TAMIU. While the environment of the workplace was incredibly nice and the direct supervisors were excellent, I cannot help but feel used and unimportant after speaking to the student employment coordinator. My termination not only felt unprofessional (as the director decided to fire me in front of other employees!), I feel as though it could have been avoided had the director (or employment office) decided to speak to me and notify me before just firing me out of nowhere. Again, I was not fired for poor work or misbehavior, but over the lack of 1 semester credit hour.
Overall, I feel as though not only my time wasted, but other students potential has been wasted due to this miscommunication and unprofessional behavior that the Student Employment Coordinator has shown me.
