Culinary
July - August 2021 • Chicago, IL
What I liked
I loved that they had multiple job opportunities and I was so happy to be put into a culinary class, instead of doing just digital media. I also liked that there was an array of advisors to help within your specific job.
What I wish was different
I wish it was longer! I wanted to be able to do culinary while in school but unfortunately, I can not! It was a great opportunity online and I hope they offer that again.
Advice
I would suggest that you fill out the survey to the best of your ability for what job you may want to do! This is important so that you can get matched up with a job that you'll be happy attending.

Student mentor
June - August 2018 • Chicago, IL
What I liked
I had the opportunity to teach high school students about documentary. And since both doc film and teaching are passions of mine, I felt like a made a huge step forward in terms of my career goals. I also got to spend a lot of time on set - and my hours were very active and busy.
What I wish was different
Since the position lasted for 6 weeks in the middle of summer, my early June and late August were primarily spent working on my on-campus job, as it didn't leave me with a lot of time to plan for something longer or more beneficial.
Advice
If you're going to do an internship - make sure you know what you want out of it. Is pay important? Being active? If it looks like your internship is going to be unpaid, or you're going to spend a lot of time sitting in an office doing paperwork, make sure you're actually gaining something from the experience. There are employers out there who take advantage of college students for cheap or free labor. Know what your time is worth. I worked for my position with CHA because I knew it was going to be active, it paid well, and it tailored towards the kinds of work I know I want to do later in my life. And it worked out great!
