Working for The Constitutional Walking Tour of Philadelphia has been a great experience so far. The job offers a flexible work schedule, which is great with undergraduate or graduate school schedules. In addition, you get to meet people from all different backgrounds, and ages, which provides for a work experience that is varied and interesting. Overall, I have felt respected, trusted and valued in my role at The Constitutional Walking Tour.
What I wish was different
The only thing I wish would have been different would be a slightly longer lunch break. With three tours a day when you are facilitating Walk-Up Tours, slightly more time would be better to get water, and take a moment of rest. It is a physically demanding job as well, so that is my only thing I wish was different.
Advice
This can be a flexible, yet demanding job. You will be both walking and talking all day long, so be sure you are mentally and physically prepared for that. Staying hydrated, well rested, bringing sunscreen and snacks are all important elements to succeeding in the job, in addition to staying knowledgeable about the Historic District of Philadelphia and making sure you are historically accurate.
