What I liked

This internship was an amazing experience! I got a lot of in studio experience. I was able to observe classes, assist classes, and teach classes on my own so I could learn from more experienced teachers at the school while getting to practice and improve my own skills as a dance teacher. The school has a very inspiring model of education and it was nice to see how they build their curriculum and value the arts. My boss was a great mentor and taught me a lot about dance education and really pushed me to try new things. Also the cafeteria food is incredible and you get to eat there for lunch every day :)

What I wish was different

I started working on some projects for the dance department that they had clearly gotten too busy to deal with over the years (understandable, I was their first intern). It was really helpful to learn about archival and digital work, but it was a bit frustrating to not have enough time to finish the archiving projects I started.

Advice

K-12 school hours can be tough! I started work every morning at 8:15 and finished sometime between 3:15-4 every day. They have a coffee maker...take advantage. Also! Keep an open mind with kids, they are extremely intelligent and will teach you a lot.
