The ExerScience Center

Intern

February 2024 • Lutz, FL

What I liked

I have enjoyed my time at The ExerScience Center and learning under the tutelege of Dr. Leiva. I had incredible hands-on experience and eye-opening exposure to physical therapy modalities. The clinic focuses on integrative practices to create individualized treatment and the best possible outcomes for patients. Dr. Leiva is wonderful mentor who values educational experiences. She exudes altruism, which makes her an exceptional one-of-a kind physical therapy practitioner.

What I wish was different

I do not wish anything could be different from this experience.

Advice

Be prepared for learning physical therapy and other forms of holistic wellness. There is much to learn at the clinic, which will take some time getting acclimated to. My best recommendation is to absorb as much as you can one day at a time.

Physical Therapist Intern

May 2024 • Lutz, FL

What I liked

I love how Dr. Leiva has made her clinic into a space that inspires learning and growth in healthcare while having personal relationships with the patients. She has created a positive environment for both new professionals in this field as well as her patients making it a great place to explore your passion for physical therapy. Dr. Leiva also provides knowledge/services in personal training, nutrition, holistic treatments, yoga, etc. in addition to physical therapy making it a great internship for all healthcare/ exercise science students.

Advice

Take advantage of the educational opportunities and events this internship has to offer and be proactive when helping out and asking questions so you can gain insight into the profession before graduating. Dr. Leiva cares a lot about her interns and will help with networking and gaining helpful experiences as long as the intern takes advantage of the opportunities and learning as well.

Physical Thersapy Internship

May - August 2023 • Lutz, FL

What I liked

As a former undergraduate intern at the ExerScience center. I can easily say that this was an amazing starting point for me on my journey to become a Physical Therapist (PT). Dr.Lauren provided me with a variety of resources to keep track of my hours, provided me access with medical terms used within the feild/learning units that can further help me understand what goes in within PT, tips with patient care, and more. She even mentioned alternative career paths in case PT may not be the career you are fully committed too, or have some alight adjustments about. Dr.Lauren is an amazing person to shadow under, as she puts emphasis on making sure each intern (and patients) feels like they are learning something, while making sure they are comfortable. If you are interested in interning within PT, but are unsure where to start. I highly recommend the ExerScience center.

What I wish was different

The only major things would have been to fill out a proper HIPPA form, and to be more involved in patients. Outside of that, it still was a very good experience!

Advice

Make sure you are ready to be physically active while on the internship. Such as stretching and doing a light exercise before going in.
