The Law Office of Kevin Seaver

Legal Intern

January - March 2022 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I cannot say enough good things about Attorney Seaver and this internship in general. First of all, I have never worked for someone who worked as hard as Attorney Seaver. He works seven days per week and even gives his personal cell phone number to clients to call him at any hour of any day. His work ethic is infectious and made me eager to wake up in the morning and work alongside him and his other hard-working employees. Secondly, I learned so much which is the most important aspect of any internship. Attorney Seaver truly cared about how much I learned which is remarkably different from other internship supervisors who think too much about what they can get out of the working relationship. He asked me multiple times if I felt that I was learning a lot from him, to which I responded with a definite "yes." He was always looking for ways to improve and asked me on multiple occasions how he could do so. He made it clear that it did not matter to him that I was an intern and that I should feel comfortable expressing my opinions on legal matters to him, both because it would help me learn and also help him consider other alternatives to legal questions. Finally, I feel confident in saying that I made a positive impact in the lives of so many clients. As an intern for Attorney Seaver, I can promise that you will not sit on the sidelines. You will actively work alongside Attorney Seaver in ensuring that Massachusetts DCF is removed from the lives of so many hurting families as quickly as possible. Again, I cannot say enough good things about Attorney Seaver and this internship in general. You will learn a lot and feel like you are making a positive difference in the world. Highly recommend!

What I liked

I have had the privilege of working alongside Attorney Kevin Seaver since December 2020 and throughout the summer of 2021. Mr. Seaver is unlike any other attorney and person I have ever met. Not only is he a kind person, but he is a fighter for his clients. He puts his clients needs first, and he fights to the end. We made a first hand impact on families lives and helped so many people that were involved with the department of children and families. His work is inspiring. I would recommend Attorney Seaver for anyone who is involved with DCF. It truly is not a place to play around with, and Mr. Seaver can help you. He is the best of the best when it comes to DCF matters.

What I liked

Working as a legal intern at the law office, I gained hands-on experience interacting with clients, proofreading legal documents, and working on marketing efforts. During my time at the law office, I learned so much about the legal profession. The people working in the office were extremely welcoming and always willing to answer my questions. Attorney Seaver was enthusiastic about the work he was doing which inspired me to show up every day and do my very best. Overall, this experience allowed me to gain insight into what I wanted to do after my time in school, and inspired me to make a difference.

What I wish was different

Due to my class schedule, I was only able to come into the office two days a week. I would've loved to come in more days to see cases through and spend more time on projects that I was working on.

Advice

This office was a very collaborative environment so you have to be willing to work with others. The projects that I was working on were creative and hard work was required to accomplish these. Attorney Seaver expects hard work, so make sure to show up each day ready to do your best.

What I liked

The office was always respectful and made me feel useful during my entire experience interning there Attorney Seaver's attitude, passion, and loyalty towards his clients is inspiring and he always goes above and beyond to help them His employees were also extremely kind and always there to clear up any confusions or questions I had. My assignments were stimulating, and also beneficial in terms of expanding my research, writing, and time management skills My time here has been great and Attorney Seaver and his team have left a very positive impact on myself with skills that I can take with me towards a future career

What I wish was different

I wish this internship could have been longer. This internship gave me so much new insight on the criminal justice system, and I wish I could have been able to have more time to expand my knowledge even more.

Advice

I mentioned before that the assignments I completed were very stimulating. You will always be kept busy with workload, and need to be prepared and motivated when given a lot on your plate.

What I liked

I was an intern for Attorney Seaver this past fall semester of my senior year of college. This was my first experience working in a law office so I didn't know what to expect but from the my first day I was welcomed with open arms by Attorney Seaver and his staff. I drafted legal briefs, case studies, findings of facts, and participated in the remodeling of Attorney Seaver's website. The skills that I learned through this internship will be incredibly helpful when I first enter law school and will put me well ahead of others. Attorney Seaver encouraged me to never be afraid to ask questions and always be confident. I learned that hard work is very important. Attorney Seaver went above and beyond for his clients, he was extremely dedicated and put 110% into every case, which is why he is so successful. He is a great example for me to follow throughout law school and beyond.

What I wish was different

I wish that the internship went on longer!

Advice

You have to be willing to work hard and be collaborative. Attorney Seaver expects anyone who is working for him to be as dedicated and hard working as he is. You cannot successfully complete this internship if you're someone who doesn't put the effort in. You will find this internship the most rewarding if you show up everyday with enthusiasm and open to being challenged. Also, the environment that Attorney Seaver creates is very collaborative. Interns are treated as equals and everyone is expected to support each other and work as a team.

Paralegal Intern

January - April 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

The experience you will gain through this internship is equivocal to a first year law student and I am only a sophomore in undergrad. Attorney Kevin Seaver pushes his interns to take risks while also having an open door policy, giving interns confidence to knock on his door and ask questions about tasks. As an intern you will write motions, findings of facts and blogs. You will sit in with clients and meet them in the office and also at court. The most valuable experience that no other internship will allow you is to sit second seater in court. You will be able to meet other attorneys, judges, probation officers and go into the clerk's office. This internship opened my eyes to the workload and legal environment. I am in a different position and mindset than when I began working. I still do not know what I want to do as a future career but this internship put many things in perspective.

What I wish was different

Be prepared to work, at times it might be best to try and focus on the internship and just school and not add a third job to the mix.

What I liked

I worked for the Law Office of Kevin Seaver three days a week for 15 weeks in the Spring of my Senior year. Along with 8 other individuals, I quickly found my place in a fast-moving, hard-working, and detail-oriented law office environment. Due to the sheer interest in the internship position, I was unsure if I would make the cut to be brought on to the team. However, Attorney Seaver met me personally and made me feel like I could bring something to the table, being transparent in his expectations as well as the goals an intern should set for themselves. Attorney Seaver treats his interns with the same respect and attention he provides to his clients, to that end they work very hard to ensure the work is up to his standards. His approach to an honest and hard-working life permeates to those around him, and you will find that you work harder in school and in your personal life due to this internship experience. This internship allowed me to gain insight that I believe many law students do not gain until after their second year of law school. Working with Attorney Seaver has given me deeper exposure to background legal assistance in compiling Findings of Facts and Rulings of Law manuscripts, submitted Summary Motions for Judgment on Pleadings, and developed briefs on various legal issues Attorney Seaver would delegate for us. This internship also offered me the chance to accompany Attorney Seaver to his other responsibilities; I sat second seat at the Boston Juvenile Court on multiple occasions and spoke with clients on the date of their hearings. I was also invited to other opportunities to meet with clients in Home Visits or investigators’ assessments, traveling to different towns in Massachusetts for one-on-one meetings. My understanding of the law now gives me the confidence to engage and excel in my own legal proceedings, as this experience gave me the toolkit to start off on my own career in law. Attorney Seaver also tasked me with revitalizing his marketing strategy. I was directly responsible for implementing a post-sharing system on Facebook to engage with Attorney Seaver’s followers as well as many Family Rights and Child Rights pages. I also worked closely with Attorney Seaver’s marketing team to implement key changes to his website, as well as in prospective client outreach services to ensure Attorney Seaver’s presence could be reached all over Massachusetts. This, in addition to a coordinated Facebook effort, resulted in the steady gain of followers that increased the Office’s web presence significantly. It is important to note that during this time the law office experienced a surge in 5-star reviews as well as continuous positive engagement across all groups on Facebook. Internet presence and marketing one’s self is a huge skill that isn’t taught at law school. Working with Attorney Seaver on marketing will show you the importance of self-representation and genuineness, and the importance of aligning your message with your personal philosophy. The office environment was comfortable and inviting. Attorney Seaver’s office provides openness that contributed directly to the spirit of collaboration and companionship I felt with the other interns. Everyone has a space to work, and as well has access to various amenities – the 5-minute walk to North Station makes it virtually impossible for anyone with Commuter Rail access to say they can’t make it for 8:30am. This internship will give back what you put in ten-fold – as a former intern I advise you to put in is 100% enthusiasm and effort. Attorney Seaver is a great lawyer with keen insight in how to read people. Working with him will show you how to become the best version of yourself, and if you spend the time to meet the level of dedication required, it will make you a better lawyer one day for it. I cannot recommend this experience enough, as the personal growth and satisfaction I gained during my semester at the Law Office of Kevin Seaver has paid dividends for my future

What I liked

Working for the Law Office of Kevin Seaver puts you ahead of most students who have an interest in pursuing a legal career. Attorney Seaver gives his interns just about the same opportunities and experiences as a full-time employee of his firm, which is rare for a part time internship but incredibly useful for future law students. I learned so much; how to format important legal documents, what witnessing a trial at court is like and the way Attorney Seaver assembled evidence to prepare to defend his clients. I gained first-hand experience meeting clients, and taking an active role in helping Attorney Seaver. A definite highlight was being able to personally witness a Fair Hearing, which Attorney Seaver, his employees, my fellow interns and I had been working so hard on throughout my time at the firm.

What I liked

I had a memorable Summer working Monday through Friday full time with Attorney Seaver. I was the youngest in his office. I was initially intimidated by all the older, brilliant interns and staff. I can honestly say I do not think I will find another internship that is so hands on. I went to court with Attorney Seaver all summer. I was excited to sit side by side with Attorney Seaver in Court hearings. Going to these court hearings I got to be in front of judges, Clerks, Probation Officers, Court Officers, Attorneys and clients in a real court.

What I wish was different

Advice

You have to be very motivated to do this internship. It can be very tiring so your head has to be in the right space and mindset.
