It was an incredible experience. I was given a ton of responsibility to report breaking news. I uncovered the state's largest coronavirus outbreak, investigated how police used legal loopholes to hide their identities, and investigated why BIPOC and immigrants suffered disproportionately from COVID-19. My editors were extremely supportive and willing to help out at any time, even when I knew their plates were full.
What I wish was different
Doing my internship online didn't provide me with the deep relationships I would typically get out of an internship, but it had to be that way because of COVID-19. Everyone tried their best to form good relationships, even online.
Advice
Don't be afraid to ask for more or take more responsibility with your assignments. It shows initiative and as your higher-ups begin to trust you, they will give you more important duties.
