Web Development Intern

May - August 2022 • Lansing, MI

What I liked

This internship was a great opportunity to get hands on experience with front end development. Going into the internship I did not have much experience, but I was mentored and trained by STG employees and soon after was able to apply my skills directly to projects. I really liked how much trust Kyle put into me and other employees by letting us take the lead on website projects. The work environment at STG is very collaborative and fellow co-workers are always willing to help with any problems I would run into on projects or tickets. Going into this internship I had minimal knowledge of HTML, CSS and Wordpress and coming out of the internship I completed 4 full website builds alone!

What I wish was different

I enjoyed my internship at STG and feel like I grew a ton as a front end developer and professional after spending a summer working for Kyle.

Advice

You do not need to have web development experience going into this internship, however you do need to have a hard work ethic and be able to juggle multiple tasks. During my time at STG I worked hard learning HTML, CSS and Wordpress. I also needed to be on task in order to sure I was keeping up with client emails, service tickets and projects that I was leading at all times. Kyle and the developers at STG are a great group of people!

What I liked

This internship is great if you have passion for front-end development or design, whether you have lots of skill/experience or not. I liked that the internship was paid and that there are lots of other interns to work with and grow your knowledge. It creates a very fun atmosphere to work in.

What I wish was different

While I have enjoyed my time here so far and feel like I have grown a lot as a developer and designer, because work has been booming I have not gotten many performance reviews. As an intern, I'm always looking for ways to improve my work, and performance reviews would help with that.

Advice

There isn't much concern about your current skill level, as long as you have passion for the industry. One thing worth noting though is that you will need to have good time management while working here. Being that this is a small business, as you grow here you will likely be expected to juggle multiple tasks. Building websites, updating old sites, meeting with clients to help them with website-related tech questions, etc. There will be lots of tasks on your list that you will need to manage.

Sales Management Intern

May - August 2021 • Lansing, MI

What I liked

I really liked the amount of real world experience I had with this summer internship. Right from day 1 I was working with and reaching out to perspective clients. I also liked the amount of trust my boss had for me, with him being busy running the company I would find myself having to make some big decisions. I worked alone as a salesman for the company and being a 1 man department at the time really gave me the tools to grow and develop myself into the professional world.

What I wish was different

Something I wish that could've been different for me and my experience was I wish that there was another salesman working with me. I did find myself having an a lot of work to do and not finding much time to balance between all of my client meetings and follow-ups.

Advice

Go into this application process with an open mind, as long as you are true to yourself and passionate about your work, you will have great success with this company. I do believe that time management will be one of the best skills you can have with this company. As I stated earlier I was a man team for almost my entire internship and at first I felt myself being swamped with work, but once I learned how to properly manage my time I found myself getting more work done.
