I liked the staff, the work environment, and the opportunities that I was given during this internship. The keepers really care about the wellbeing of the animals at the sanctuary and are very determined to educate the public on the conservation of endangered species and the consequences of wildlife trafficking.
What I wish was different
I wish there was a stipend offered, but since the sanctuary relies on donations I completely understand why it is an unpaid internship.
Advice
Texas summers can get really hot! Hydration, applying sunscreen, and knowing when to take breaks is very important!

What I liked
The Wild Animal Sanctuary offers interns many opportunities to gain experience in exotic animal care. The staff has a very positive and open-minded attitude and they are always willing to help others. They truly care about the animals and want to genuinly make a difference in the animal world. The staff also gives you independence once you have shown that you are trustworthy and reliable and that is something that means a lot as an intern. I highly recommend this internship to those who want to work closely with big carnivores.
What I wish was different
The only thing that I wish was different was that the internship paid however, I understand why that is currently unavailable.
Advice
Come prepared to work. This internship is hard work however, it is so worth it! Drinks lots of water and create a sleep schedule early on. Lastly, it is always helpful to take notes and keep an open mind about different learning techniques and perspectives.
