Orientation Leader

June - August 2019 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

I loved meeting new incoming students, and helping them in their acclimation journey to Jefferson

What I wish was different

I wish I had known the hours I would be required to work prior to the job, the hours were extremely taxing.

Advice

Certainly this job isn’t for everyone, you cannot do it for the money, you will be miserable. If you love meeting with new people and connecting to others in a situation you know well, this is for you!

What I liked

I loved my clinical instructors and how many sonograms they allowed me to do. It really helped build my experience and fully prepared me for a job.

What I wish was different

We had 3 days of abdomen and 1 day of OB time and I would prefer it split 2 and 2 to get equal opportunities for both modalities.

Nurse ext

September 2017 - April 2018 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

The nurses were so welcoming and I learned so much. I learn a lot from the doctors too and was able to prove myself and they let me watch some surgeries.

What I wish was different

I felt a little over worked, if there was another external with me and Morgan it would’ve helped

Advice

Take advantage of it. You learn so much as long as you make sure to be a part of the team - let them know that you want to learn and see and do things and they’ll let you.

Prospect Management Intern

June - August 2019 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

I liked the pay and getting experience working in an office. I also liked the internship program's seminars and professional workshops that helped me learn more about my professional goals. I also liked the internship program's day of service that helped break up the monotony.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been placed in a different department. Although I liked prospect management, I wish I would have been placed in the Marketing or an Administration internship. I also wish that I would have been with another intern. I was the only intern in my department and I wish I would have had more interaction with the other interns in the program

Advice

I would definitely tell a future intern in this department to continue to ask and try and interact with other departments in order to learn more. I would also recommend getting to know the other interns in the program sooner in the internship.

Biochemistry Research Assistant

May - August 2018 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

I had a wonderful experience mastering the lab basics, and was funded largely by a grant through the school. I had the opportunity to shadow post-docts, Ph.D., and master students while also woking individually on my own experiment under the supervision of a senior level Ph.D. student. The Thomas Jefferson campus in Philadelphia is a beautiful spot in the city. The weather stayed nice for the majority of summer and I had a nice time at the lab making long term friends and connections as well.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to afford a spot to stay in Philadelphia to avoid the long commute, but as a volunteer it is definately worth the experience.

Advice

After working in a lab with people who have much more lab experience than myself, I feel more confident in myself and the direction I’d like my life to head in. I was told Washington College prepared me very well, and hope to see another student from WAC in the future!

Health Design Researcher

June - August 2018 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

I worked in the innovation lab (JeffDESIGN) and we were given a lot of creative freedom and independence in terms of determining the directions the various projects would take. There was also a variety of projects to work on and an ample amount of students helping put everything together. Felt like a start-up.

What I wish was different

At times, there wasn't any staff present in the lab and it was just the interns. This was due to the work schedules of the staff, who also worked shifts in the hospital, but it was sometimes off-putting.

Advice

Be prepared to set deadlines for yourself and learn how to deal with community partners with agendas that are different from your own.
