Tinker Air Force Base has a mission to maintain and repair Air Force aircraft. The most common planes Tinker repairs are the B-52 Stratofortress, KC-135 Stratotanker, E-3 Sentry (also known as the AWACS),
and the B-1B Lancer. Tinker is also responsible for repair and overhaul of approximately half of all engines owned by the Air Force. To meet this mission, Tinker employs approximately 1,600 civilian scientists & engineers. The majority of these employees work in the areas of Electrical & Computer
Engineering, Computer Science, and Mechanical & Aerospace engineering.
