Project Management Intern

What I liked

LOVED my co-workers. The work culture is very uplifting and makes you feel like part of a team. My department was in the middle of a transitionary period and everyone was still very willing to help get me up to speed and bring me along. Everyone I encountered was happy to meet with me and give me career advice and seemed genuinely interested in me. They also reimbursed me for my gas because I commuted >25 miles which was a huge plus. Very relevant Project Management experience working in both Agile and Waterfall management spaces. There is a big technology focus which I was not expecting but I found very interesting and a great way to diversify my knowledge base.

What I wish was different

You will have to ask for more work. The workload I was given initially was very small. When I first started and was unfamiliar with everyone it was frustrating to feel like I wasn't getting much done, but after getting to know more of my managers and co-workers I felt more comfortable asking for things to do. There are a lot of acronyms to get used to. Don't be afraid to ask what they stand for.

Advice

Advocate for yourself, ask for things to do if you need more work. Build relationships with co-workers. Try to come in with a knowledge of the company and what they do. Know what annuities are, know the difference between whole life and term life, etc.
