What I liked

I liked how I was able to connect to students and help them out on their homework and studies whenever they needed it. Students or parents would reach out and sometimes within minutes we were able to connect online and jump into work. I also really appreciated how easy the online platform was to manage as online tutoring was something I was new to in the beginning.

What I wish was different

In the beginning it was hard to connect and find new students however, reaching out to the team via email helped me find more students to tutor. The Tutorfly administrations has always been really helpful answering any questions or concerns I have had an made any difficulties with this job become non-existent.

Advice

If you are interested in teaching/tutoring, Tutorfly is a great place to work! Everyone is very kind and helpful and as long as you follow the protocols and guidelines, it's smooth sailing. Best tip I could say is make sure you are on time to all sessions and try to be a little excited about tutoring because your demeanor can really impact a students day!

What I liked

Working as an in-person tutor with Tutorfly has been a great experience! Having the opportunity to work with amazing students and help them grow has been the best part of the job. Since the lessons are designed by Tutorfly and all I have to do is teach them, it makes it a really great part-time job to have while attending college. I am learning a lot and feel as though it's preparing me for my future career as an educator!

What I wish was different

I do in-person tutoring, which has its pros and cons. One of the greatest challenges I've faced is having students in my groups who are of varying readiness levels and have different abilities. While it's incredibly convenient that I don't have to create the lessons, it also poses a challenge when I can't as easily differentiate for my group.

Advice

The advice I'd give you is to build relationships with the kiddos, be confident in your abilities as a tutor, and have fun! I can very easily take things a little too seriously and forget that the students are at the end of their day too, and while it's important that they learn a lot, it's also important that they have fun while doing it. Make it your goal to help each student feel capable of and excited for growth!

Tutor

September 2021 - June 2022 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I loved that this job was extremely flexible. I could pick which hours were best for me and tutor students whenever I had time. It paid well and it the online platform was easy to use, so I could do it right from my dorm room. The students were all really nice and I was able to choose which subjects I felt comfortable teaching.

What I wish was different

I wish that it had been easier to find students to tutor when I was just starting out and had no reviews.

Advice

This was a great job, and it's especially perfect if you are a student. Once you sign up, it's easy to build your own schedule and you can do as much or as little as you want. It is good experience to put on a resume and I felt like I really improved my teaching skills. If you want to make a lot of money with flexible remote work, this job is perfect.

What I liked

Tutorfly manages all client communication, scheduling, and payment processing. I've done quite a bit of private tutoring and Tutorfly was by far the simplest way to tutor. All of the lessons plans were integrated into the online classroom prior to each session. I was able to log on confident I had what I needed to support each group of students. And working with the students was amazing! I also appreciated the way tutoring takes place online in the school classroom during their study hall. It adds a layer of accessibility for students who might not have the resources to receive tutoring services after school.

What I wish was different

I would've preferred to have the summer school session to be a little longer. A couple more tutoring sessions for the kiddos in summer school could have really helped the kiddos grasp those difficult concepts we worked hard to review online.

Advice

First, show up for tutoring sessions on-time. Every minute counts in a session with a kiddo who is counting on you to tutor them. Second, review the lessons beforehand. Log onto the online classroom familiar with the material. And lastly, apply to tutor! The pay is pretty competitive and it is ALL work from home. And it's a work from home job with a wonderful amount of social interaction since you are online with students. Prepare to learn, laugh, and have fun all while doing meaningful work that makes a positive difference.
