UC Davis Electrical and Computer Engineering

Mechanical Engineering Intern

June 2018 • Davis, CA

What I liked

Working with Professor Assadian was fantastic! He and his grad student Kevin M. was very helpful in leading me to success in my research.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to devote to the research project!

Advice

It was very heavy on coding and understanding the math/physics that go into automotive batteries and vehicles.

Summer Innovation Intern

June - August 2019 • Davis, CA

What I liked

I really liked the full clinical immersion aspect of the internship. I was able to interact with surgeons, radiologists, technicians, and registered nurses. I got to learn a lot about the true needs that Biomedical Engineers need to address. I loved the final project and presentation where I was able to discuss my findings and ideas.

What I wish was different

I wish that the structure was better-defined. Sometimes it was difficult to arrange schedules with the doctors and there was some confusion. Besides organizational challenges, everything else was alright.

Advice

One piece of advice that I have for interns is to make the most of downtime. There are breaks in between surgeries, so that is the best time to explore other departments or ask questions.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

September 2018 • Davis, CA

What I liked

I liked learning about how to produce Cellobiose Dehydrogenase (CDH) through the inoculation of P. Pastori for the overall goal of producing Cellobionic Acid (CBA). This acid could then be used in pretreatment of biomass to break biomass down into useful substances such as pharmaceuticals, biofuels, etc.
