The people I met with a similar interest on the importance of and passion for sustainability.
What I wish was different
Nothing at all.
Advice
I’d recommend undergraduates to look into REUs for summer employment. I’ve met people from all over the world through it who’ve grown to be good friends!

What I liked
I loved living in an environment with many other undergraduates and graduate students, where we were all interested in marine science and all worked on a variety of research projects. I loved working in an all female lab, with amazing mentors. I learned many new field research and sociological research techniques from this experience.
What I wish was different
I wish I would have been able to help out with other research projects while there.
Advice
Make sure you know the expectations of your project ahead of time, and make a strong connection with your mentor(s) as they can help you in the future.

What I liked
I gained plenty of experience working in an organic synthesis lab and learned quite a lot about biological interactions of small molecules with cellular components.
What I wish was different
Unfortunately the lab was not yet set up for cell cultures and equipment to study the biological interactions, so I was only working in organic synthesis this past summer.
Advice
Take good notes, having a well-updated notebook makes life so much easier in any lab.
