UMass Memorial Health

Patient Advocate

June 2018 • Worcester, MA

What I liked

I love the opportunity to learn more about patient-centered care. This job offers me incredible experience as to what it will be like to become a nurse.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had the opportunity to work more and save up more money.

Advice

My advice would be for other nursing students to try to experience a job within a clinical setting before becoming a nurse because this kind of experience is invaluable and can really determine if this is a career for you.

Managed Care Intern

June - August 2018 • Worcester, MA

What I liked

What I wish was different

I would have wanted to do more inferential statistics.

Advice

When in doubt, ask questions. You need not direct the questions to your boss; often times, co-workers can answer questions for you, and they're far more willing to do so than they seem. Health care is full of confusing acronyms and what-not, and occasionally the answers to your questions will surprise you. For example, I initially assumed that "DRG" was an abbreviation for "drug," but in reality it is something completely different.

Lead Admin Assistant

October 2017 • Worcester, MA

What I liked

Up and coming with research, many opportunities to grow and take on new experiences.

What I wish was different

Little more training in the begining

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions and confess that you don't know how to do something. The only way to learn is to be taught.
