Union Pacific Railroad

Finance Intern

January 2021 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

Well directed and guided company, impressive, meaningful, and deliberate focus on diversity, inclusion, and engagement, and the work is vital to America's infrastructure. There were/still are numerous group/networking experiences amongst interns. My role has given me wide exposure to multiple aspects of the treasury group I'm interning in, and constant opportunity to grow and develop skills that I can test/implement in the work I'm doing.

What I wish was different

I wish I had an opportunity to meet the team and people I would be working with before starting remotely in January. That being said, this is something that was discussed and implemented going forward, but was delayed due to Covid.

Advice

Take the time to reach out and meet with people from other departments/parts of the organization you're interested in, even just for 15-20 minutes. Everyone is incredibly open and kind, and I enjoyed learning about all sorts of jobs that UP has to offer.

Advice

My advice would be to be open heartedly when dealing with homeless people.... because they need to be respected as well, they are sadly just in a bind of being unfortunate of not having what we do.
