Information Center Operator

June - September 2023 • Irving, TX

What I liked

I enjoyed the freedom and flexibility of the job. I could do work while waiting to pick up calls. My supervisor was also a kind and relaxed individual who did not micromanage me.

What I wish was different

Advice

This job is a good one for UD students who have a lot of homework because you can earn money while doing your homework.

Mobile App Developer

July 2021 • Irving, TX

What I liked

I like how I was able to learn something new and found something I like to do. I especially like how I was able to provide something for the university and leave something behind when I graduate.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to start sooner in June with the rest of the team, but I was unable to as I was part of the Summer Rome program.

Advice

As in any job, be prepared to learn stuff on your own to do the best job you do.

Library Assistant

May - August 2019 • Irving, TX

What I liked

Projects given to individual workers, flexible time off, rotation of jobs to workers

What I wish was different

Flexible lunch breaks (less of a break, get off work early), flexible work hours (ability to work part time)

Advice

Requires a lot of sitting at a desk taking care of very few patrons over the summer split up by longer busier tasks. Have something to do at the desk (reading, writing, etc.) and earbud music to listen to for long tasks

Undergraduate Physics Research

June - August 2019 • Irving, TX

What I liked

The hands on nature of experimental research was definitely a plus! However, the best part of the experience was working closely with professors who are experts in their fields.

What I wish was different

I would have liked a more clear objective.

Advice

Ask questions and ask them often. Your PIs know that you are not an expert yet at whatever you're doing. You are there to show them that you are competent an want to learn.

Resarch assistant

June 2019 • Auburn Hills, MI

What I liked

I enjoyed the field and hands-on aspect of this experience. It was very fulfilling, and I felt I grew as a person. I also enjoyed being involved in a project that benefited multiple people, not just myself.

What I wish was different

I wish I had had a little more guidance by my superiors, and perhaps felt a little more welcomed by my coworkers.

Advice

Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. You never know how much you can grow just from stepping out of the box you have placed yourself in.
