My favorite part of my job as a Student worker for UL Lafayette is convenience of working in the same environment that I learn in. My employer is very understanding of my student schedule as well.

Look for student employment that is similar to your interest in school, you can learn more in a working environment than in a classroom.

Orientation Leader

What I liked
Everything! Meeting new students and making lifetime friends on the orientation staff made it an unforgettable experience.
What I wish was different
I've never been a big fan of wearing khakis and red converse, but they definitely grew on you. Also, driving up for transfer orientations from Baton Rouge to Lafayette were quite rough, but once again, you get use to it.
Advice
Make sure you are truly committed to the team and the process. It takes a lot of time and effort to be an orientation leader, but it is definitely worth it in the end.

Tanner in Legacy Apartments was a great boss, the hours were great, the other interns were awesome.
What I wish was different
There were some very long days when we had completed all of our tasks and had to find something more to do.
Advice
Apply early and wear comfortable shoes there are lots of stairs to climb for the job.

My adviser knew very little about the project and the university did not have equipment to adequately complete the project. It would have been better to work with someone else on an existing project.
