Tutor Counselor

June - August 2019 • Princess Anne, MD

What I liked

I am an Alum of the Upward Bound program and I worked there last summer as well. It’s great to be able to give back as a college student. It’s an easy job that allows you to have an impact on high school students and their futures.

What I wish was different

I wish more students would have signed up for the program and really appreciate it as much as we did when we were in the program.

Advice

It teaches you how to have patience and responsibility. A great first job for those college students who have never worked before.

Undergraduate Researcher

June - August 2018 • Princess Anne, MD

What I liked

I enjoyed the opportunity to conduct hands-on scientific research in a laboratory setting.

What I wish was different

The timeline for my research project was largely unstructured in the beginning, so I wish I had a bit more guidance in the first few weeks.

Advice

Research experience for undergraduate programs are great, but your success is largely dependent on being self-motivated throughout. I learned that I need to advocate for myself and identify what I need before going to my my research mentors for help.
