Valmont Industries, Inc.

IT Intern

May 2022 • Valley, NE

What I liked

Great work culture. Every member of management I have encountered acorss several different teams were all very welcoming, open to feedback, and handled issues concisely and with grace. Was incredibly impressed with this output.

What I wish was different

I mean, I always wish the pay was a little higher, but I don't have a lot of complaints. Driving to Valley is tough and I had thought my position would be in Omaha, so a disclosure during the application process would've been more beneficial. I also was pretty unsure of what I would be doing with my team when I signed on, so again, more clarity on tasks associated with each team would've been more beneficial too, but again everyone I encountered at Valmont has been and continues to be a joy to work with and they have made it very easy to work around a lot of those issues with remote work capabilities and meetings with my managers and team members.

Advice

Keep an open mind. Ask lots of questions. Don't be afraid to socialize with the other interns. The ability to connect and interact with other interns from all around at Valmont was a huge benefit to this job, and made it a lot easier to problem-solve items you may be afraid to ask management about.

communication intern

May 2022 • Boys Town, NE

What I liked

I really liked the internship program itself. There were many opportunities to learn about different fields within the organization. We also had happy hours and were able to do service work which was fun!

What I wish was different

I wish my managers had more prepared for me to do. Although my manager did quit a week into my experience so it was just a difficult situation all around.

Advice

I would advise to try and meet as many people within the company as you. Get your name around and try to network on your own as much as possible.

Market Research Intern

November 2020 - May 2021 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

I enjoyed being able to meet other employees and add to my network. I enjoyed the autonomy of my position and I was able to do market research about environmental social governance and its impact on our world. That was probably my favorite project. Flexible hours and a very kind and understanding boss.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given more projects, I felt like sometimes I was just waiting around to be given a task, even after reaching out to my boss and trying to stay busy on the clock. I also wanted more structure in the internship and to have more meetings.

Advice

My advice would be to take in everything Valmont gives you access to, such as Valmont University. I went through many training programs that will advance me in my personal career. I am Agile Certified now, thanks to them.

Human Resources Intern

December 2018 - May 2019 • Valley, NE

What I liked

I loved the hands-on experience that my internship allowed me to have. I was also offered a full-time opportunity when I graduated in May. The culture was one of the main reasons I decided to stay with the company permanently!

What I wish was different

Nothing, Valmont has a great internship program where students can learn about different areas of the business and gain meaningful experience.

Advice

Make the most out of your internship. Valmont will provide you with the tools and mentorship to complete your duties, but expects their interns to take initiative to go above and beyond to complete projects and tasks!

E-Learning Instructional Design Intern

June 2019 • Valley, NE

What I liked

I really enjoyed the people there. They're helpful, kind and don't make you do "typical intern things." I also liked that I was doing the actual job not just simple sideline items. They were teaching me the ins and outs of the work and how to do it well.

What I wish was different

I honestly don't have any complaints about the job itself. The hours were very flexible, people great, and I loved the work. The only thing is that the Intern experience at Valmont felt a little disorganized but my internship was also a bit different than the others so that is probably why.

Advice

Be open to changing your ways. The people there know what they are talking about, so listen and don't get too trapped in your own style but be willing to adapt and learn something new.

January 2019 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

Valmont provides me the opportunity to work on real projects and take ownership in everything I have done. Valmont provides me with mentorship and opportunities to work and learn with Senior leadership within the company. I have the ability to learn from people across the company and across the world. Because Valmont is a global company, I get to work and learn from people all over the world on any project. My managers instill trust in me to work on real projects that have a big impact on the company. I love Valmont because I get the chance to learn new skills and further develop the skills I have.

What I wish was different

I don't really wish much was different in my internship experience at Valmont. Managers help you make the most of your internship and if you want a new experience, they are ready to help you change things up.

Advice
