What I liked

Everyone there made me feel welcome and encouraged creative thinking.

What I wish was different

Nothing, it was a great experience.

Advice

At an internship you need to be self driven and not wait around for someone to tell you what to do. Never waist time and make as many friends as you can.

Chemical Engineering Intern

June 2020 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

I was able to work closely with a mentor on a project that was assigned to me personally to work on. I enjoyed working on project because I was able to see how engineers work as a team to make ideas become a reality.

What I wish was different

We started a month later than scheduled due to Covid-19 restrictions which I wish was not the case. This held interns back from being able to go out on to site and have the experience of seeing how our work as engineers is then taken to the next step of construction.

Advice

I would say don't be afraid to ask for new opportunities if you want to learn some kind of new skill in a field then make it happen ask for that opportunity.

Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

I liked the people, the company values, and the company stability. They don't go through periods of layoffs like most engineering companies do. Slow and steady growth with good benefits. The processes that WesTech works on are really cool, and WesTech also does a fair amount of humanitarian work.

What I wish was different

The company does not pay very well (for an engineering company) and they do not do much research into developing new products. They are focused on doing what they already know that they can do and if they get a job for something that they haven't already done, then they won't do it.

Advice

If you're interested in environmental engineering, want to work for a company with a good company culture and benefits, or want to have a job where you know you will be making a positive impact, then this would be a great opportunity for you. Also, if you are looking for an internship that will turn into a full-time position, know that WesTech has a highly competitive internship program, but if you get an internship you will most likely get a job after. WesTech likes to hire on their interns once their internships end.

Summer Intern

May - August 2018 • Gurnee, IL

What I liked

The work environment was very encouraging. The people made the experience very stress free and allowed me to learn a lot during my time there. Many opportunities to go out on site visits and meet contractors and engineers. Also, being able to be a part of different projects was a good way to learn how the company operates.

What I wish was different

I could have done more in terms of helping out around the office. Also more responsibility could have been given concerning different projects and design work on different pieces of equipment.

Advice

Just be yourself and don't worry about trying to seem smart or know what you're doing because everyone is very helpful in teaching you.
