Very supportive team environment, everyone is willing to teach/help you something

Tape Head Intern

June - September 2022 • San Jose, CA

What I liked

The company environment was exceptional. Working with experienced high class engineers and physicists who supported my own development and learning.

What I wish was different

More networking between interns.

Advice

It’s a bit scary to start at western digital as in my case many of the engineers had decades of experience in this field from back when it was an IBM r&d department, however it’s really not an issue, everyone was happy to share their knowledge and expertise.

I like the team dynamic and the participation as an intern. They treat you as part of the team. People are kind, patient, and professional. I learned a lot of stuff in this experience.

What I wish was different

Systems Test Engineer

June - September 2018 • Milpitas, CA

What I liked

I really liked the team I worked with. They were very nice and opening. I worked under SSD PETE which primarily deals with hardware and software implementation of Legacy SanDisk Products.

What I wish was different

I had a great experience there and don't wish to change it in any way. The person who assigned me work to do was very willing to sit down with you and help you through the current project you were working on. We had some one-on-ones to review the code I had written for a test that they required in production.

Advice

During the summer, there were two interns in the same team, me and another student from Purdue. One thing that I realized when working was that he would always be content on finishing off the project and unwilling to ask for more work. Since, I am a senior and I understand the seriousness of having an opportunity like this. I took this opportunity to dedicate more time and shine in the eyes of my other co-workers. Through working long hours (8+) during the summer, my manager was impressed and had started talking to me about converting me into a full-time position at least 5 weeks before my official end date. So for some advice, spend lots of time in the office or outside the office working, ask a lot of questions to clarify your understanding about the project you need to work on and don't hesitate for asking for help if you are stuck, someone will find time to help you out eventually.
