tax/audit intern

January - March 2023 • East Brunswick, NJ

What I liked

I really enjoyed working with the Audit department. It gave me a better understanding of the field and increased my overall knowledge.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have been trained for taxes better. I felt I lacked training which is why I fell behind in the work.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Everyone in this firm is very friendly and will do anything to help guide you in the right way.

Tax Intern

July - August 2020 • East Brunswick, NJ

What I liked

It's cheesy, but I LOVED the people. My mentor was amazing and we frequently had virtual "lunches" where we could talk for like 20-30mins about anything. She was super approachable and it was really nice how she took time out of her busy day to chat with an intern like me. I also loved how the firm itself transitioned the internship from in-person to virtual due to the pandemic. The virtual format worked out so well and I was able to get tons of hands-on experience with the clients, the company's tax technology, and the culture.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more auditing work to do. I knew going in that typically the summer internship is more tax-based work, but I did appreciate how the firm exposed the interns to a mock audit project. Overall, there isn't anything I would change about this experience. It was truly one of a kind.

Advice

Don't be afraid to voice your opinions, concerns, or questions! There are so many people willing to help you on your engagements and it's better to ask for help than wait and struggle. With that being said, don't ask a question every step of the way. It's important to write all of your questions down, and once you feel you cannot move past a certain point, then go ask for help! It saves you and the in-charge time (plus you don't have to go back and forth with asking questions)!

Tax and Audit Intern

July - August 2020 • East Brunswick, NJ

What I liked

The company culture was amazing! Even though the internship was virtual, they still exceeded all expectations and provided a wonderful experience. The staff was knowledgeable, and very willing to help and answer questions. They were understanding of any issues we had, and helped us fix them.

What I wish was different

I wish I had an in-person experience, but that was not possible due to COVID-19.

Advice

Always be yourself and let your personality shine through during the internship. The purpose of any internship isn't to see how well you perform or how many pieces of work you can complete, rather it's an experience to get to know the firm, and for them to see if you would be a good fit at their company.

Tax Accountant Intern

June - August 2019 • East Brunswick, NJ

What I liked

I loved the people at the firm the most. I felt like I was apart of the WG family, even though I was only there for about 2 and a half months. All of the staff wanted to see the interns succeed and helped us whenever they could. I also really liked how I was given actual client work and was able to work alongside partners on special projects. My experience at WG was very well-rounded.

What I wish was different

The only thing I can say is I wish I saw more audit work, since the internship was for both tax and audit. However, I realize there was more tax work that needed to be done in that moment, because of the time of internship! All of the work I was given was meaningful, though.

Advice

Never be afraid to ask questions (everyone there wants to help you) and network with as many people as you can! If you give 100%, that is what you will get in return.
