Y2Y Network

Administrative Director

June - August 2019 • Cambridge, MA

What I liked

It was very challenging and it taught me many life skills. I was given a broad range of responsibility and expected to rise to the challenge. I had a great team of co-workers and we were able to bond and improve the program together.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have stayed longer.

Advice

It is very important to be ready for situations to arise that seem too big for you. In those moments, be brave and rely on your support network. Also, emotional support from friends and family is very important when doing any type of social work, especially with young people experiencing homelessness. When you're taking care of others, you need to be sure to take care of yourself as well so you can best serve.

Volunteer Director

April - August 2018 • Cambridge, MA

What I liked

Was able to perform hands-on direct service work with a marginalized population in Boston. Worked with a group of students who were just as passionate about the cause as I was. Completely ran and decided the policies for Boston's only youth homeless shelter.

What I wish was different

A wider support system for employees and more of an emphasis on work-life balance.

Advice

Like with any service or non-profit work, please be sure to take care of yourself and utilize all available resources to support you.
