YMCA of San Francisco

Membership Associate

January 2022 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I loved the team I got to work with. There was a very holistic approach to the work environment. I felt like I am apart of a supportive community. Not only did I feel support towards my skills in my membership position, but I also felt supported in my long term goals outside of the YMCA.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more staff working at the same time, at least at the Richmond District branch. Normally there are 2 individuals working at the membership desk, which makes it a little more challenging when it gets busy.

Advice

I had a very positive experience with flexibility and communication in this team. It is also very enjoyable to speak and form connections with members of the neighborhood.

Program Leader

June - August 2019 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I liked getting to know the youth. We worked on planning many field trips. It was great to see the growth that many youth had. We played many fun games and laugh a lot.

What I wish was different

Nothing really. I loved the youth and love my team of staff.

Advice

Set boundaries and expectations the first day. Stick to them. Don't be afraid to be silly.

Strengthening Families Specialist

March - August 2019 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

Helping families problem solve and giving them tools that would help them in their day to day lives. Being a positive influence for them and creating a fun and safe environment.

What I wish was different

I wish my coworkers and people doing the same work from other organizations (people I would interact with during trainings) would have better boundaries with each other and not expect workers to take their work home. Also the overall organization of everything could be better.
