What I liked

They give you all the tools to be successful but whether you are or not is completely up to you and that is something that you cannot find in hardly any, if in any, other internships. It feels like you are actually an entrepreneur trying to start up a business.

What I wish was different

It is time consuming, which is to be expected, but there are a lot of late nights and early mornings.

Advice

If you are going to participate in this internship, you have to put 110% of your effort into it.

What I liked

YEAA trains young high-achievers to successfully start and run their own business. I got to build my own vision for my business from the ground up by marketing, selling, and recruiting. I recruited my own marketing and painting team, sold my own work, and ran a 6-figure business over the summer. I also had the satisfaction of being my own founder, dealing with my own problems, and having lots of responsibility.

What I wish was different

I adapted to the circumstances with the pandemic to keep my business going strong, and I built resilience and character through dealing with difficult customers.

Advice

This internship is not for everyone. But if you are driven and obsessed about running your own business, you will successfully finish the summer strong. Listen to the training and the coaching that the company gives you, and use all the resources that are available to you.

What I liked

Working as a Branch Manager for Student Painters (YEAA) has simultaneously been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life. This internship has pushed me way out of my comfort zone - giving me opportunities to grow and develop new skills. Not only am I no longer afraid of heights, but I have also learned how to close a sale, enhanced my customer relations skills, and developed the organizational skills necessary to manage production. This summer I ran a $55,000 business, completing jobs for over 30 clients. When I started this internship I was plagued with fears: would I be able to make sales, would I find quality hirees, would I be able to handle the inevitable customer satisfaction issues? However, Student Painters (YEAA) provided me with a solid business framework and all of the necessary training to succeed. Then it was up to me to apply the framework and see how far I could push myself, all the while overcoming my fears. I ended with a 59% sales success rate, had a hardworking paint crew (the only all-female crew), and persevered despite obstacles and set-backs. This is an opportunity that I will forever be grateful for. I have grown exponentially, personally and professionally, and am ready to take on whatever challenge comes next!

What I wish was different

Working for Student Painters (YEAA) is a very time-consuming internship. While this is not something that can be changed, as maximum effort and time spent is necessary for a successful business, it is something that students should be aware of.

Advice

Do not be afraid to go out of your comfort zone and push yourself! You never know what you might achieve!

What I liked

-Best experience that college student can get if they plan on running their own business in the future. This teaches you the ins and outs of marketing, sales, customer relations, managing revenue and employees, the list goes on and on.

What I wish was different

I wish I had listened to my executive more than I did. The advice your mentor gives you will lead you to success if you follow it. During some parts of the internship I got cocky and I made a few mistakes in the process. Recovering, bouncing back and conquering the challenges that arised from those mistakes are what gave me the rewarding and life changing experience from this internship. Being an entrepreneur isn't about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and still keep going.

Advice

Know your why, or your reason for running a business.

What I liked

This internship is for the most motivated and success driven college students who are seeking to separate themselves from their peer groups and take the first big step to building the strongest resume possible at their peer group. After two years with this company I can confidently say that I have the most incredible stories that I can bring with me wherever I go, and the intangible experiences that I earned from running over $300,000 of business over two years. I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything. The financial freedom you also attain from this internship is more than any other person at the age group, and is helping me completely pay for college.
