What I liked

The employers have been more respectful than any others I've ever had. I feel valued as both an individual and as an employee. In previous jobs where most employees are in their teens or early 20s, employers have refused to consider me as an equal or like I have anything to offer. In this position I have control over my schedule, constant support from coworkers, and a safe environment for my queer identity.

What I wish was different

The scheduling system for the company is in the midst of being updated and as a result can lead to confusion, however employers are always responsive when I ask for clarification.

Advice

Don't go into this job if you don't like working as a team. Your work is individual but there is a lot of support from coworkers and feedback from supervisors. Expect to work together and don't be afraid to ask for help or talk to the administrators.

What I liked

I really enjoyed the environment, the place was very open with unique classrooms that the students seemed to like which made the tutoring easier and more fun.

What I wish was different

I really disliked the lack of professionalism among the managers; I was laid off pretty suddenly after a week of zero responses to any of my emails asking for a scheduling clarification. After that week, I emailed again asking when to come in next and was told I hadn't reached out at all to them and that my position was going to be given to someone else. While I usually was respected as a transgender individual by my coworkers and students' parents, one of my managers would use incorrect pronouns for me even when reminded of my correct ones and would also refer to me as feminine version of my name. I should also note that my pronouns are on my handshake profile as well as my resume; that manager also did not know me pre-transition so it seemed as though they went out of their way to use the incorrect pronouns.

Advice

I would not recommend working here if you are a transgender individual or are looking for a long-term job since the management is pretty finicky with scheduling when in training to become a tutor for them.

What I liked

Eurekii has given me lots of opportunities to learn and grow. When first starting out, I didn't know I could be anything but a teacher. However, now I am learning how to run a small business and customer service skills, all while teaching and tutoring kids. Our team has also been really great! Eurekii focuses on lots of team approaches to problem solving and learning.

What I wish was different

Being in a start-up can be chaotic sometimes. It can sometimes be an "all-hands on deck" situation when we try and take on more opportunities. I'm hoping we can continue to grow more staff.

Advice

I would recommend working at Eurekii because it is flexible and the team approach is really great. The employers really care about your well-being and help you pursue opportunities, even if they are outside the educational and business field.
