Exxon Mobil Corporation

Chemical Engineering Intern

June - August 2016 • Baton Rouge, LA

What I liked

The work was challenging, I was given serious responsibility and not treated like an intern. They did a really good job organizing intern events so that we could meet each other and grow our network.

What I wish was different

I only wish it could have been longer, because you feel like you barely scratch the surface of things you could learn in that short amount of time.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions! If you don't know/understand something, it is better to say so early on. Don't forget to judge the company you're working for just as they are judging you. You are trying to figure out if the culture is something you could see yourself fitting in with.

optimization engineering

June - August 2017 • Houston, TX

What I liked

Great resources, lots of learning opportunities, I had my own project and was treated like a full independent adult, the people (my coworkers) were amazing people to work with

What I wish was different

Opportunity to do more in-depth visits of refineries would have been nice but overall a great experience

Advice

Go into it with an open mind, learn all you can, and be prepared to do a lot of thinking. They will treat you really really well.

Controller's Intern

May - August 2018 • Houston, TX

What I liked

The people genuinely wanted to see you succeed and were there for you the entire time, but you were treated as an employee, not an intern. I had a real life project they use today and had to present to upper level management. I also loved how the intern program was so large (51 interns in the finance function) so it was easy to form relationships.

What I wish was different

A heads up on what kind of project you will receive. Mine was very programming/analytical based which I was not as familiar with

Advice

Do it. ExxonMobil will take you completely out of your comfort zone and challenge you, but you become a better professional and student.

FIxed Equipment Engineer

May - August 2018 • Baton Rouge, LA

What I liked

Ability to work with many different people, had a very helpful mentor, was able to interact with all the interns

What I wish was different

A stronger, more structure internship program where people are onboarded quicker (IT and HR-wise)

Advice

Ask people questions! Never be too shy to ask for help
