Greenheck Group

Product Development Co-Op

June - December 2023 • Schofield, WI

What I liked

Greenheck has a well established co-op program. While I was initially hesitant in doing a co-op, I am very grateful for the opportunity and the growth I experienced. During the program, you are exposed to a variety of aspects within the company, from HR to engineering, and everything in between. My supervisor was very helpful in curating my time here at Greenheck to one that will benefit the company, but also benefit me in honing my interests and developing my skills. In product development I got hands on experience in all stages of the product life cycle, as well as being able to take over my own projects. As a co-op at Greenheck you don't feel like another cog in a corporate machine, you make valuable impacts within a company of people who all want to see you succeed.

What I wish was different

When I initially had my interview and got my offer, the projects and responsibilities advertised were not very accurate to my actual role. While I grew to appreciate and enjoy these new projects, that's not to say that I wasn't initially disappointed. This change wasn't intentional, it was just the result of a rapidly moving company.

Advice

Take advantage of everything that is offered within the co-op program and within the company in general. There are constantly events happening and ways to get involved with your co-workers. Whether this is getting involved in a volleyball league, or going to a festival in town. In the work environment don't be afraid to be open with your supervisor, there is a spot where everyone can thrive within Greenheck, even though it may take a couple of attempts to get there. Finally, for co-ops in specific, if you are moving, try to find a roommate. Not only for practical reasons, but also to help develop your community during your co-op tenure.

EHS Intern

What I liked

I really enjoyed my time at Greenheck, everyone that I worked with was extremely friendly and made me feel welcomed from. The day I joined the green heck team I felt equal to everyone else I was working with. everyone that I have ever talked to that worked at Greenheck said how much they enjoyed working their and now I know why. Green heck is feels more like a community than a work place everyone wants to succeed at everything you do.

What I wish was different

Advice

One piece of advice In would share is to go out of your comfort zone and say yes to projects that may be a little out of your expertise. As well as don't be afraid to speak up and voice your opinion on projects and in meetings.

Manufacturing Engineering Intern

May 2022 - August 2023 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

While interning at Greenheck Group, I loved the independence I was given throughout my time working. With minimal direction, I was given the opportunity to solve various problems on my own, resulting in the deveopment of new relationships and stepping outside of my comfort zone to achieve my goals.

What I wish was different

At Greenheck Group, you get out what you put in. There are countless opportunities and relationships to be had. The more motivated and driven you are as an intern, the more you will learn from the talented and knowledgeable employees. What I liked

I really enjoyed my summer at Greenheck Group. I liked how many opportunities there were to talk with other employees from different areas of the company. I also liked how easy it was to transition into my role. Everyone on the team I was working for was very welcoming and were always there to teach me something new. Overall, I had a great time working here over the summer and learned a lot in the process while building connections with other interns and employees.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have interacted more with other coworkers in my department and learned more about what they did on a day-to-day basis.

Advice

Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and ask questions. During my experience as an intern, we were given numerous opportunities to talk to executives, managers, and employees from all different departments of the company where it is important to ask questions or talk with those people to form connections.

What I liked

I thoroughly enjoyed all of my time with Greenheck! As an intern, I loved having the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that will impact the business in a variety of ways. I greatly appreciated the numerous exposure opportunities to high level executives and different facets of the business. This experience was very eye opening in regards to different career paths within the HVAC industry. However, the amazing culture and people are truly what sets Greenheck apart.

What I wish was different

I wish my team members worked in the office a few more day a week to promote better co-worker comradery.

Advice

As an intern or a co-op you are given a lot of autonomy, and it is important to use that for good by asking questions, taking initiative on projects, building relationships, and making the most of your experience.

Manufacturing Engineer Intern

January - August 2022 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

There was a lot of opportunity for growth and I had control over what I wanted to work on. The Minneapolis team is wonderful and will help you whenever you ask for it!

What I wish was different

I just mentioned that I had control over what projects I wanted to pursue; however, there is a learning curve associated with choosing your own work. More guidance to get over the learning curve would be useful.

Advice

Talk to as many people as possible as early as possible; do not get too sucked in to projects because there is so much to learn from the people around you.

Marketing Intern

June - August 2021 • Weston, WI

What I liked

I enjoyed the professionalism of the Greenheck culture. From the top to bottom, I saw success in every individual at Greenheck. It was an inspiring work environment and I was excited to get to work every morning. I loved what I did.

What I wish was different

I would have liked to get more experience with professional photography, however I was thankful for the experience that I got anyway. I now have a skill that is valuable no matter what company I work for thanks to Greenheck.

Advice

Honestly just make the most of your job and the season you are in. I now know that I want to work in the field of marketing for the rest of my life because of this internship. Doing what you are passionate about is super important, and an internship is a great opportunity to find what you are passionate about.

Product Development Engineering Coop

June - December 2021 • Schofield, WI

What I liked

I really enjoyed the mixture of hands-on projects and desk work. I've learned more in my 6 months at Greenheck than my first two years of school largely because of how helpful and encouraging the other engineers in my department were. I also loved how much time I was able to spend with the other coops; sharing our experiences and projects gave me a much better understanding of the company as a whole.

What I wish was different

There were so many positives about my coop at Greenheck, but the one thing I wish was different would be to have participated in more design projects, rather than mostly support and research. I did get to tip my toes with what my department was working on regarding product design and development, but more time with this would have been invaluable as an undergraduate engineering student.

Advice

If you are at all questioning whether it is worth it to take a semester off of school, just go for it because there are many aspects of engineering that cannot be taught in a classroom alone. The staff at Greenheck will ensure a smooth transition from the start to the finish line.

Marketing Intern

June - August 2021 • Schofield, WI

What I liked

There were so many things that I liked about the Greenheck marketing internship. Everybody was so willing to help me and didn't expect me to know everything, especially my advisor Jason Graefe. I gained a lot of experience and skills that were relevant to the field of marketing. I was not given anything that I didn't want to do or looked down on because I was young and inexperienced. I would not have wanted to have my internship at any other company. It is because of companies like Greenheck that make the world a better place. Greenheck is a company that lives out their values and does not just have them in vain. Greenheck is a winning company because of its winning employees.

What I wish was different

I would say the only thing I'd change is I wish there were more people in the office that I could socialize with and learn about their job at Greenheck, but everybody's comfort levels are different which is totally understandable.

Advice

Throughout my internship, as I did projects and interacted with coworkers, I would ask myself if this (marketing) was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life, and every time the answer was yes. So my advice to you would be get an internship or co-op in the field you're interested in and find out if it is something that you are passionate about. Because doing what you're passionate about is one of the absolute most important things in life.

Manufacturing Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Schofield, WI

What I liked

Greenheck encourages continued education and personal development by allowing Co-ops, Interns, and full time employees to take classes about Lean principles or other topics like learning how to weld or learning Excel more proficiently through classes that they provided. As a company, they do a great job of providing students with great learning experiences and giving Co-ops and Interns responsibility. I previously had a Co-op with Greenheck and returned for my Internship position where I sat in a whole other facility than my Supervisor. I was given real projects, with a step up in responsibility being away from my Supervisor, and I was given the freedom to complete the projects how I thought best. This was an awesome learning experience!

What I liked

Green heck has a strong focus on community. They also work to develop machines and their employees. I was able to take some different training courses during the work day, showing that Greenheck cares about investing in their employees

What I wish was different

I just wish that I would have been able to stay under one supervisor but he got a promotion and I worked under another supervisor who was a strong supervisor but hadn't planned on having a co-op.

Digital Media Intern

June - August 2019 • Schofield, WI

What I liked

I loved the culture of this company! I worked at Greenheck for two summers and I thought it was a very beneficial experience to my future career. I was given the opportunity to work on my own video projects and given the freedom to use my professional skills even as an intern. Greenheck takes pride in how they live their corporate values (such as integrity, community service, being the easiest company to do business with) and being someone on the inside I can say that this company did that for me. They gave me room to grow and learning opportunities through paid time to go and learn on Lynda.com to further my knowledge of work.

What I wish was different

One aspect of the program at Greenheck I wish I could have taken advantage of is how involved the company is with their value on community service. "Investing in the communities in which we live" is a corporate value Greenheck lives by and I have seen them actually back up this claim. Interns have the opportunity to take time out of their workday to volunteer around the community and still get paid! This is something I wish to do more of in the future.

Advice

One piece of advice I would give about this experience is that one shouldn't be afraid of moving outside of there normal living area to move to come to Greenheck. Before I had even started here the HR department was helping to find living spaces for people who were moving.
