Marketing Operations Intern

June - August 2019 • Boulder, CO

What I liked

There were countless events for interns, ranging from speakers to fun community events in Boulder. I also really enjoyed the mentoring program.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have sat with other interns in the office, as I was slightly isolated in the marketing department.

Solutions Engineer Intern

June 2021 • Durham, NC

What I liked

NetApp has a great intern program and with it being completely remote this year made it as interactive as possible. I was able to participate in many intern led events and group projects while getting to know other interns virtually. The speaker series was also my favorite because every week we would be introduced to an employee that works in a different department within NetApp.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to do a tour of RTP site but with covid regulations, we are not able to at the moment.

Advice

Network with individuals outside of your department. I have found that it has helped me learn other aspects of how people work within the company.

Business Analytics Intern

June - August 2019 • Sunnyvale, CA

What I liked

The program offered a lot of ways to get involved outside of the position. A lot of intern events were scheduled, like going to Great America, doing a field day, etc...

What I wish was different

I honestly wish I would have gone into the marketing department, but I loved my position and my works- just not my true passion.

Advice

Definitely take advantage of everything NetApp has to offer to its employees, even as an intern. Don't be afraid to ask your boss to include you on certain things, they almost always say yes.

HR Intern

June - September 2018 • Sunnyvale, CA

What I liked

I liked the opportunity to give structure to an unclear task and project proposal. School teaches you how to think, and working LETS you think and use the skills you developed being in school.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given a broader perspective of the specific industry, and taught more about what the product was that the company was selling.

Advice

I would say to not underestimate the power of your voice; speak up if you have something to add, and you might actually surprise yourself and actually have impact.

student contractor

October 2018 • Wichita, KS

What I liked

I love the people I worked with, the location was filled with events and daily activities for workers to do in spare/break time, and the workload was usually either relaxing to challenging.

What I wish was different

I am curious what it would have been like to have ended up in a different group in NetApp, other students actually did go to different groups around NetApp. But I am always happy with my little group.

Advice

When you have a question about your work, schedule, etc. don't be afraid to ask people above you for help, NetApp is known for having helpful people and being a wonderful work environment.

Software Engineer for Testing

May 2016 • Wichita, KS

What I liked

The atmosphere was that of learning and growth. The managers encouraged responsibility and improvement, allowing me to work in areas that I would not have had the opportunity otherwise. I also enjoyed working with seasoned professionals in within the career that I am currently pursuing.

What I wish was different

It is hard to say, but if I were to mention anything, it would be to have more opportunities to see the full-time engineers work in order to see their methods.

Advice

You'll leave the internship with whatever you put into it. If you simply want to be a button-pusher, then that is all you'll get out of it. However, if you push yourself by taking on intimidating tasks, you'll grow much more than you would otherwise.

QA Test Contractor

June 2012 - July 2016 • Wichita, KS

What I liked

My Co-Op position gave me first hand experience in the real world and I'm very thankful and appreciative that I got to put what I learnt in school to work and actually had a chance to perfect and improve both my professional and communication skills. In the classroom I was able to relate both my programming and networking skills which helped me excel in my academics. Lastly, my Co-Op experice along with my degree helped me have a huge advantage to find a full-time position and start my career.

What I wish was different

Everything was good. I loved every aspect of this program right from the start to the end.

Advice

Don't give up and always dream big! Just because a few position/companies turned you down, doesn't mean that you don't have what it takes. Just keep looking and you will find the right oppurtunity at the right time. Take advantage of the Co-Op office's Resume building help and mock interviews. They are definately helpful.

Student Contractor - IOP Linux Department

June 2016 • Wichita, KS

What I liked

The organization is welcoming for students and overall if you work hard and hustle, you can get the most of your internship/Co-op position. I've been working there for over a year, and if you love Tech and learning new things, you won't feel like working at all. It's a gratifying experience professionally and personally.

What I wish was different

Creating events for Student Contractors (Hackathons && Innovation Challenges)

Advice

Seek knowledge from every person you will meet there; because you never know who can teach you something new that could have saved you a lot of time in the past. We all make mistakes, so don't freak out, just learn from your mistakes and document (Don' t try to rely solely on your memory, this isn't school and you might take months before redoing the same task again, and that's when you'll realize the importance of notes!). NetApp is pretty good at providing its employees and contractors with all the resources they need for success. Make sure you take NetApp University courses and understand the concepts, even if you already went over that practically it always adds more to your skillset. The great IT candidate doesn't only memorize formulas and sheets, they think creatively of how to solve problems that they encounter every day and when it comes to information about a topic there is an unlimited number of resources to get what you need. Manage your time efficiently and try to be detail oriented as this the nature of IT industries. Never stop learning, and don't be too cool for school as you will always find new things to learn.

Sales Operations Intern

May - August 2018 • Tysons Corner, VA

What I liked

I loved the people and culture. NetApp really takes care of their employees and interns, and it shows in the workplace culture. I also was doing important work. Sometimes I was filling in for those on leave and other times I was creating new and innovative projects and solutions. I felt like a necessary part of the company and know that some of my projects will continue to be used.

What I wish was different

I wish we had more networking within the company and at other locations. It would've been great to meet other individuals not in the Public Sector and talk with more interns as well.

Advice

NetApp puts a lot of effort into their interns, so make sure you do the same!

Corporate FP&A Finance Intern

June - September 2018 • Sunnyvale, CA

What I liked

I really liked having an over-arching summer project throughout the course of my internship so I could really dive deep into it. I still had many opportunities to learn things outside of the scope of my project and I truly felt like a part of my team. There were so many cool events for interns, including a happy hour as well as a paid VTO (Volunteer Time Off) day where we went to Habitat for Humanity. I would highly recommend this internship to someone who has company culture and awesome managers at the top of their internship wish list. Interns also had access to the company gym which was a huge plus!

What I wish was different

Honestly, there is not anything I would change about my internship experience.

Advice

Always keep an open mind and take up every opportunity you can to network with people at the company you intern at!!!
