Ogallala Commons, Inc.

Ogallala Commons Intern

June - August 2018 • Woodland Park, CO

What I liked

This internship taught me a lot of initiative and it also gave me the chance to work on projects I truly felt passionate about. For example I got to be an integral part of starting a food rescue at our farmers' market where we were able to collect slightly damage produce to give to people in need. Ogallala Commons held all interns to high standards so I learned a lot about how to set and achieve goals.

What I wish was different

Honestly, it was a great internship and the only thing that I struggled with was the internship portal being faulty from time to time.

Advice

Taking the step from school work to internships is bigger than you may realize. In an internship, employers expect you to apply your knowledge, take projects and run with them. They won't always give exact specifications the way you get rubrics for papers and such. Sometimes you'll just have to tackle the project using any and all resources you can find. It's liberating to realize you are ready to take more initiative, but also scary at first. So that being said, when you learn anything, be thinking about how you can apply in real life. Be ready to think outside the box!
