What I liked

I enjoyed the aspect that there was a great amount of autonomy to either spend my time on the floor interacting with others, getting to know the project, etc or to spend my time in the office in-order to complete certain tasks that needed to be addressed. There was also not a lot of guidance, which really broke me out of my shell since I was able to spend more time in different sectors of M&W to get to know how everything worked together to make our finished products.

What I wish was different

I wish that there was a bit more guidance throughout the entire internship. It felt as if the team was not ready to receive my help as an intern. Possibly having a stronger structure, plant tours to different plants as well as rotations with different departments would be quite beneficial. Leaving half of the time to be dedicated to our own assigned projects.

Advice

Do not sit in your office and wait for someone to come give you work. M&W is quite busy and there will always be something that can be learned. Get out there and ask questions!

What I liked

I really enjoyed that you got to lead your own project. You got what I would say was a problem statement and had to go figure out the pieces, come up with a solution, and then implement that solution. This was scary at first but I found it really improved every single soft skill that you might be looking to develop through an internship.

What I wish was different

I wish that there was more exposure to the company outside of the plant. Of course the position was supply chain, but getting experience in what a marketing intern was doing, or how the transportation department was handling ongoing logistical issues would have been interesting.

Advice

Do not be scared about having little guidance. While it is on you to reach out for support, there was not a single person who was not willing to talk, even the CEO.

What I liked

This internship was amazing. It was very hands on. Got a chance to work closely with management who had years of seniority under their belt. Also got a chance to network with other interns and see what types of projects they were working on as well.

What I wish was different

I wish interns could swap roles for a week mainly to see what was going on in the sales side of the company.

Advice

Do not be afraid of relocation. It is only temporary. You are building a foundation to your future career.

company culture, pay, and support were great. they gave us a mentor and a buddy to go to if we needed anything. daily schedule was very organized as well and there was a lot of guidance and learning opportunities. most of this applied more to corporate though, and less supply chain

What I wish was different

learned sc is not for me, which wasn't their fault. a big part of our performance measures wasn't built into the schedule so I worked overtime every week to create my report outs. i also felt pressured to set up more voluntary meetings to do more in depth learning which would have added to this. I also asked my manager for concerns but didn't receive any until not getting the offer. Manager and HR didn't communicate well so my manager had no clue what I was doing

Advice

going into this experience if you're in terry, just know that engineering culture is very different and they prioritize different things. i was often purposefully asked questions i didn't know in front of others, which was very stressful for me but they want you do reach out to other people at the plant to ask these questions and go more in depth. to me business prioritizes creativity and new ideas, but here it was a lot more focused on technical knowledge. (how does this machine work?) also in business, generally you shouldn't go around bothering people about technical questions that you can ask another intern or research but they really pushed for that here and if you didn't do it it affected your performance. lastly know this is NOT a corporate SC role. You might end up 3rd or 2nd shift

Packaging Engineer Co-Op

What I liked

Over the course of this co-op, I was provided every opportunity to apply and expand upon my classroom learnings. In just the six short months I worked at PepsiCo, four of which were remote, I was able to grow as a Packaging Engineer more than I could've ever imagined. PepsiCo provides an outstanding work-life balance and I found everyone there to be an absolute pleasure to work with.

What I wish was different

While mostly limited due to COVID travel restrictions, I wished I had the opportunity to travel and attend more plant trials than I was able to over the course of my co-op. Plant trials were a very fulfilling part of my co-op and I'd say they are critical in taking the most away from the overall experience.

Advice

I would advise anyone working for this company, regardless of position, to put yourself out there as much as possible. I was able to make the most out of my co-op by reaching out to colleagues and offering support on their projects or any other work needing assistance. Also, everyone is more than happy to lend a helping hand when requested so don't hesitate to ask for help when needed.

We often had longer days and packed schedules (it was a shorter internship because of covid)

Best people, great training, and overall look at how multiple operations work within the many brands.

What I wish was different

It was an online internship due to COVID-19 but I wish I would have been able to do a socially distanced office tour at the end in order to see where I'd be working the following year.

Advice

Go all in! Everyone at PepsiCo is fun, competitive and loves to chat with interns! Reach out to as many people in as many different positions and ask for 30 minutes of their time to hear their story, you will learn so much about the job and life in general.

The work and the people are amazing! Everything was extremely structured and based on conveying compelling stories. The people actually cared about seeing me progress and succeed! I really enjoyed my experience!

What I wish was different

I wish we weren’t in a pandemic so that I could get the full 10 week experience, but I’m grateful that they made the accommodations that they made.

Advice

Come in ready to make an impact. Come with great energy, and be ready to learn!

Accounting Control Intern

What I liked

Everyone was very nice and worked as a team. They were always open to talk to if I had any questions. I was able to network with different senior management and learn more about the company and how interrelated the various roles were.

What I wish was different

I wish it would've been in person, because I feel like I could've had more meaningful interactions. However, with COVID, that was not possible. I would've had the full experience.

Advice

Just don't hesitate to reach out to others and connect. They all have great advice. Be proactive.

It was an interview that still got to happen over the Covid-19 pandemic. There were a lot of group projects that proved useful for networking.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more work to do as we had a lot of free time.

Advice

There isn't a lot of training, but the training they do give you make sure you have it down completely. This is one of the biggest components of receiving a full-time offer.

I throughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the culture that PepsiCo Frito Lay had to offer.

What I wish was different

Covid-19 caused the Internship to be virtual instead of in person, but I still enjoyed meeting and networking through zoom calls.

Be open to new ideas or concepts and locations and continue to network throughout the entire process!

What I liked

PepsiCo is such a large company with so much to offer. With that said, I have always heard that in large corporations, as an employee, you feel like you are just a number to them. At PepsiCo, this could not be any more incorrect, PepsiCo values their employees and certainly all of their interns. Although I was virtual, I was full engaged and welcomed on the team and felt like I was making a difference every single day. This is a work, pay hard company that I encourage all ambitious students to join.

What I wish was different

COVID-19 / remote

Advice

DO NOT BE LAZY. Show that you are honestly interested. Even if the other interns are lazy or even other employees, be a go getter and be genuine.

What I liked

the amount of interaction with PepsiCo employees, and their up-front, straightforward policy. I was able to talk to people ranging in all levels of positions from entry to VP, where I got valuable career and leadership advice. I like PepsiCo's mission, their values, and the fact that they are a leadership development program.

What I wish was different

The ability to have been in person, or to have been able to visit for the final week, or go to Texas like originally planned for the final presentation.

Advice

To talk to as many people and events you can to connect and learn more about the culture. Find out what works, what interests you, what helped others succeed, etc.
