Interior Design Intern

November 2018 • Richmond, VA

What I liked

I felt like I was constantly surrounded by intelligent, creative, talented people and was able to learn so much from their professional organization. They do a wide variety of commercial--particularly education--projects and are very much on the cutting edge in that field. I had the opportunity to work on many different aspects of different projects including graphics, presentations, materials and finishes, site visits, construction documents and Revit, and design of small aspects such as casework. The office culture was also very warm and welcoming. They had many fun activities that I was able to be a part of such as happy hours and other events.

What I wish was different

The internship was slow to get started and it was slow to have me working on interesting tasks. At first, I was only doing really mundane activities like organizing the materials library and maintaining the office calendar. I also personally would like more experience with smaller scale projects and they only do pretty large projects.

Advice

Ask questions and go out of your way to integrate yourself into projects as much as possible!
