What I liked

Worked with a professor to create an online art history textbook. Great communication, one on one meetings, weekly emails regarding the process of the project.

What I wish was different

Compensation was capped at $1500 until another intern dropped out of the internship

Advice

It was a great experience. If Dr. Leah McCurdy should want to put together another textbook for future classes and is looking to hire, definitely apply!

Physics Intern

October 2018 - August 2019 • Arlington, TX

What I liked

My research group did everything they could to help me but they did not actively hold my hand to walk me through things. This was tough at times but it helped me think independently. I learned physics hands-on with a wonderful support team and plenty of resources.

What I wish was different

The only thing that affected me was the fact that I was one of three females there. This is not the employer's fault, but it was hard for me to adjust to a setting where the majority was male (I attended a single-gender school for 7 years).

Advice

Be outgoing and determined. Do not be afraid to ask questions, there will be solutions to most of them, and you get to answer the ones that have no solution. Think outside the box and try to be as independent as possible, while also asking for help when you get stuck.
