I liked being in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. It was a great escape from the hustle and bustle of college life. I also liked that there was a small staff for the summer, I made some life long friends.
What I wish was different
Working at a Boundary Waters Outfitter and Lodge means it's going to be the busiest on the weekends.. With that being said we were only allowed one day off a week and it would be mid-week. I understand they need us for weekends, but it would have been nice to at least get two days off in a row. This summer there were six us of total and we all felt that we could have easily managed.
Advice
Don't commit to this type of work, where you are in the Wilderness and sign a contract for your work period, if you can't stick it through. We were told a lot of "horror stories" of their previous staff who had just gotten up and left. It is very unprofessional.
