Software Developer Intern

September 2019 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

Dynamix has a great work environment, and I have gotten a lot of experience in both front end and back end software development working here. I always felt like I was working on something important/interesting that helped the company and taught me a lot about software development. The software development team and the engineers that work at Dynamix are always happy to answer any questions I had about building applications and have helped me grow as a software developer. I really appreciated the feedback I got on my code and ways to improve my skills as a software developer. They are very accommodating with my class schedule and will work with you to make a work schedule that works for both you and Dynamix. Also, they have a fun social committee that helps you feel more connected with the team.

Mechanical Engineering Intern

May - December 2018 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

Working at Dynamix is still one of the best work experiences I have ever had. The engineers I worked with always explained everything thoroughly so I never felt like I was mindlessly doing something. Most of the people I worked with were recent graduates and always gave good career advice. I learned so much about HVAC and plumbing while I was there and enjoyed it much more than I thought I could ever enjoy plumbing. Dynamix also has 9 hour days from M-Th and then half days on Friday (super nice) AND donuts on Thursday. There is also a social committee that organizes fun events for all the employees to be part of which helps a lot if you are a new hire. Also as someone who takes diversity and women in engineering seriously, I can confirm that Dynamix actively creates an inclusive environment that anyone would be comfortable in.

Advice

Consulting is the hidden gem of engineering in my opinion. I don't think it's highlighted enough as a post graduation option at college so if it's something you think you might like and you want to stay in Columbus, definitely apply here.

Mechanical Engineering Intern

May 2018 - July 2019 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

Best work environment out of all of my internships. They have a social committee that plans fun events in and outside of the office like clippers games, top golf, wii tournaments, and christmas / holiday parties. They also have half-day Fridays year-round which is unique to other companies. They are very flexible with your schedule, letting you go on a summer vacation and if you work part-time during the school year, easily will work with you around your class and work schedule. They really make you feel valued and they appreciate your work (which also isn't necessarily present at other companies). I also really appreciated the direct one-on-one mentorship you get from a younger member on the team, giving you a lot of instruction and feedback for improvement. Typically, they're only a few years out of college so they were in your shoes recently which can be helpful. That being said, there's a large age range throughout the office which is nice and the office is more diverse than other companies I've been at (wrt gender, race, ethnicity).

Advice

Very nice to intern here if you're looking to eventually get a full-time job in the Columbus area. The three main areas are mechanical (HVAC and plumbing), electrical, and technology (more for electrical engineers). Full-time employees typically travel a decent amount around many parts in Ohio (Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Toledo), and northern Kentucky. However, there are some projects in different areas of the country which allow opportunities for travel, but not so much like you're constantly traveling. The company is also growing quickly so it's likely there will be even more national projects in the near future.

Electrical Engineering Intern

May 2018 - April 2019 • Grandview, OH

What I liked

Working with Dynamix was a great experience. The people are awesome and the work is fun and constantly changing, which is good if you don't like the idea of sitting at a desk doing the same thing all day. Also, the work week is 8-5 M-TH and 8-12 on Friday.

Advice

If you're interested in building design at all, you should check out this internship and apply. There is more going on electrically (and mechanically if that's you) than I would have originally thought. Prior knowledge of some sort of CAD is super useful, as well.
