What I liked

I liked the people I worked with. I quickly made friends and always seemed to have a good time while at work.

What I wish was different

I didn't get training on things I needed. After a summer of working there, I never got register training despite my constant asking for it.

Advice

I would say that the most important advice I could give someone about this job is to not take things personally. Customers can be very rude and the managers often take their stress out on their employees.

What I liked

I really like helping other customers in need. It really helped me with my organization skills.

This would help to gain some social skills to help you open to those around you.

May 2019 • Niagara Falls, NY

What I liked

It was fun to interact with customers and plan designs for the store when new merchandise came in. I also loved my coworkers and managers.

What I wish was different

We had a system for email captures, and it penalizes you for not getting them. So we would have to haggle with customers sometimes, which was not ideal.

Advice

It can be hard to maintain a friendly customer service persona with difficult customers but there are so many customers that make the job worth it!

What I liked

They are so flexible with my schedule during the summer as well as during the semester. Plus, the managers are so nice and outgoing! Of all of the jobs that I have had, they are the most enjoyable to work for!

What I wish was different

I am not the best as persuasion in terms of talking about the credit card, so I tend to struggle in that area. However, I usually work on the sales floor or in the fitting room, so the managers have been pretty accommodating to my abilities.

Advice

Honestly, this is the best job for if you want to make extra money while doing other things. I have fun while I work here, which is the best situation for a casual/part-time job. You do not want to be miserable.

What I liked

It was a pretty laid back job. They are flexible with your schedule. I met some nice coworkers. Good breaks depending on the length of your shift.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more training at this job. They kind of just threw new hires into an 8 hour shift a day after just going after company policies. They also suddenly cut my hours in half, which was kind of unfortunate.

Advice

There will be times where you will be confused or lost when you first start, so I would say don’t be afraid to ask questions.

What I liked

Coworkers, management, and customers!

What I wish was different

Longer shifts . (usually only 4 hours), and more hours (corporate gave out as little as possible).

Advice

Definitely laid back and not hard. A lot of folding clothes, but overall a good job.

May - August 2019 • Orem, UT

What I liked

If you did a good job, the managers recognized that and were willing to work with you when unforeseen events occurred.

What I wish was different

I wish more of my coworkers cared about their jobs. There were many employees who just wanted the paycheck and didn’t care if they left a mess or didn’t complete tasks.

Advice

Learn how to sell the ONC and fold fast!

Sales associate

July 2016 - November 2019 • Sunbury, OH

What I liked

My co workers were great and the pay was good.

What I wish was different

The managers were not in sync with each other and the company as a whole does not really care about their employees.

Advice

Find a job that pays you what you deserve and work for a company that truly cares about their employees and not just the money.

Brand Associate

May - August 2019 • Fargo, ND

What I liked

I liked working with apparel and accessories and using my own creativity in assembling displays and bringing a good energy to the stores atmosphere.

What I wish was different

I wish the register training had been more thoroughly explained. I felt like I could have used far more information in my training for the register and did not feel prepare.

Advice

My best piece of advice would be to give it a try and see how you enjoy working in the retail world. When you are surrounded by enjoyable people who enjoy their job as well, it is really fun. I personally very much so enjoyed the atmosphere of Old Navy. It felt very judgement free.

What I liked

communicating and engaging in small talk with the customers.

What I wish was different

A democratic manager instead of an authoritarian one along with a higher wage.

Advice

Debate your hourly wage at the interview. Also, do not settle for a job for the simple fact that they are the only one that contacted you for an interview.
