I loved the one on one interactions with different children and different age groups.

What I wish was different

I worked the same shift every day which means I got to be with most of the same kids, so I wish I would've gotten to work different shifts to meet different kids.

Advice

It's a great opportunity especially for college students, they really work with your schedule to find hours that work for you.

That it takes patience and a lot of work when it comes to working with kids. But at the end of the day, the reward is when they come up to you and tell you how much fun they had makes it all worth it.

Be patient! Some days are going to be harder than others. Either way, you are being an inspiring role model for some kids who don't have a role model at home. Working with kids is hard, but every day is a rewarding experience if you look at it with a positive perspective.

What I liked

I liked being outside for a lot of the day and interacting with the kids.

What I wish was different

I would've liked access to more resources because we lesson planned our weeks and didn't have much to use. I also would've liked to work with a younger group of kids.

Advice

Be prepared fully and have things ready a week or two in advance or it can get very hectic.

What I liked

I really enjoyed working with the children. It was a fun summer job because as a lead teacher I got to plan the activities myself, as well as go on field trips with the kids.

What I wish was different

I wish the structure and management had been better. Although I liked working with my manager, I wish there was more behavioral structure to the program for the students who needed behavioral supports.

Advice

I would say my advice would be to prepare yourself. The kids have a variety of tough behaviors and some days are really, really hard to get through to them. There is a lot of children per classroom which makes routines and structure extremely important to make this job successful.

Seeing the children grow as athletes. Also, I enjoyed learning new techniques for strategizing daily plans.

What I wish was different

I wish the management of the whole camp was a bit smoother as parents had complained about the operations.

Advice

I would advise the management to take into consideration what the parents had to say because they are the second most important pieces to the camp other than the children themselves.
