The people I worked with were always fun to be around and everyone understands that working at the Y isn’t the only thing in your life and are good about picking up shifts.

Picked up a few more shifts when I could have.

What I liked
This job was on a Monday-Friday daytime job, with flexibility for vacations and time off. Entire staff and coworkers were friendly and professional. Great environment to work in. Had plenty of training and options to lead if you wanted too.
What I wish was different
I wish there was more organization with the field trips.
Advice
Don't take everything too seriously. Spend time getting to know the kids, but the goal isn't to be their best friends. Be flexible.

I wish that we would have had a less busy schedule to be able to relax with the other lifeguards for breaks.

You should try to get into shape before working there because aquatic fitness is a requirement

I enjoyed the flexible hours and the way everyone worked together as a team to ensure that the attendants were safe and accommodated.
What I wish was different
I wish that some of the employees would have taken their jobs a little more seriously.
Advice
I would advise those in jobs to place communication as a high priority and not to simply assume. It goes a long way for a team to all be on the same page.

Working is important to keep up over the summer in between semesters. Especially if you are not enrolled in classes. It keeps you busy

What I liked
I really enjoyed making friends. Because I worked Monday-Friday, I spent a majority of my summer with the same people, so we got really close.
What I wish was different
I wish I took more time to myself. I am glad I saved up a large amount of money, but I only had free time on the weekends which isn't always a lot of time, especially in your twenties.
Advice
Make sure to find an even balance between work and personal time. Everyone needs to remember that it is important for your mental health to make sure that you are spending some time doing what makes you happy.
