Working is important to keep up over the summer in between semesters. Especially if you are not enrolled in classes. It keeps you busy

What I liked

I really enjoyed being in charge of my own projects. I took on video creation, tv electronic footage, brochures, and flyers. I was able to work on my marketing and adobe skills and then submit rough drafts for feedback from staff before publishing my work.

What I wish was different

I wish more resources had been available for me. I came ready with my own adobe suite and camera, but the company did not have many additional resources.

Advice

Be proactive; my boss and manager absolutely loved it when I came to them with a question about a task no one had asked me to do, but I had noticed needed to be done. When I took on tasks and projects I came across as competent and caring.

What I liked

I enjoyed the flexible hours and the way everyone worked together as a team to ensure that the attendants were safe and accommodated.

What I wish was different

I wish that some of the employees would have taken their jobs a little more seriously.

Advice

I would advise those in jobs to place communication as a high priority and not to simply assume. It goes a long way for a team to all be on the same page.

Summer Camp Counselor

What I liked

This job was on a Monday-Friday daytime job, with flexibility for vacations and time off. Entire staff and coworkers were friendly and professional. Great environment to work in. Had plenty of training and options to lead if you wanted too.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more organization with the field trips.

Advice

Don't take everything too seriously. Spend time getting to know the kids, but the goal isn't to be their best friends. Be flexible.

What I liked

I enjoyed serving the community and spending time outdoors. It had a great work culture and work was always a blast. Everyday presented new challenges and was a great learning experience.

What I wish was different

The hours. I typically worked 12-8 which is kind of a hard schedule. But I believe it was worth it.

Advice

Working for a non profit is a great experience and resume booster. You get the opportunity to impact the community and that’s really important.

I enjoyed the flexibility of the hours, learning more about exercise science, and helping others reach their goals.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would have had clients that preferred a similar period of time so that I did not have to make multiple trips in the same day to train them.

Advice

It is a great job and opportunity, but it is much easier to handle when it is your main job. Working with clients is difficult when you have a set school schedule, homework, and extracurriculars.
