Music Instructor

June 2018 • Osceola Mills, PA

What I liked

Getting to set my own hours was great! I gained a lot of valuable experience in this job by learning how to better reach my target audience of people interested in guitar lessons. Through this I also learned valuable planning skills by coming up with my own curriculum.

What I wish was different

Nothing too major could have been different! I thought this job was fantastic, and it still serves me well even during the academic year. The only thing I wish I could have changed was the location I was working in. Osceola didn't have as many people interested in music lessons, which made it a little harder for me to find steady work with students.

Advice

With a set your own hours job, you need to plan according to what time(s) people will be free, so deciding that you don't want to work on a Friday night, or on Saturday or Sunday when most people would be free to come in and take lessons is only going to make it more difficult for you to make more money.
